JOB SUMMARY
The Consumers Loan Underwriter, reporting to the Consumer Lending Manager, is responsible for reviewing all consumer loan applications, credit history of applicants, and all other pertinent facts related to a credit decision, determines if applicants have the ability to repay proposed loans, and makes the decision whether to approve, deny, or condition the request.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Review all consumer applications for completeness
· Review applicants credit reports for quality of credit history and for the number and amount of obligations
· Review applicants’ deposit and loan history with bank
· Analyze applicants’ ability to repay proposed loans
· Analyze and quantify the adequacy of the proposed collateral
· Make informed, objective decisions on loan requests; approve, deny, or qualify
· Communicate decisions and concerns with the originating personnel
· Review decisions with bank personnel if requested
· Forward applications to appropriate party for all required concurrent decisions
· Notify Loan Processing of loan decisions
· Review all appraisals and title work for compliance with terms of approval
· Notify originating personnel and Loan Processing when loans may be closed
· Prepare monthly reports as required by the VP, Consumer Lending Manager
· Assist the VP, Consumer Lending Manager and CFO in determining loan interest rates
· Attend Loan Committee meetings as needed
· Completes additional tasks, projects, and reports as requested or assigned.
· Adheres to and satisfies all duties and training requirements related to company or outside agency compliance, confidentiality, policies, fraudulent or suspicious activity reporting, laws, and regulations as they apply to the position.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
· Four-year college Accounting or Business degree or appropriate direct experience in banking/financial institutions.
· Minimum of 5 years as a consumer lender, 3 years as an underwriter, or a combination of adequate experience in the loan approval process and collections
· Excellent understanding of applicable laws and regulations related to banking, lending and privacy
· Able to exercise appropriate independent judgment and take action on it.
· Well-developed analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong research and negotiation skills
· Sound listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
· Skilled in financial data analytical and math aptitude skills
· Logical and efficient, with keen attention to detail.
· Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure.
· Strong customer service orientation.
· Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
· Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record
