Consumer Underwriter

WMCU is looking for a talented individual to join our team as a Consumer Underwriter in Grand Rapids. Consumer Underwriters are responsible for assisting members with their consumer lending needs by analyzing loan requests and making credit decisions based on the lending policy.

What We’re Looking For:

• Team player attitude.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Member Service Representative / approving loans. 
• Able to pass a background check.
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must be detailed oriented. 

What You’ll Do:

• Review and analyze both direct and indirect loan applications making independent decisions while adhering to the credit union’s lending policy and delivery timelines.
• Communicate the decisions (approvals/denials) of all credit applications to the appropriate parties in a timely manner.
• Identify cross-sale opportunities or counter offers and communicate those to the Member Service Representative.
• Establish documentation requirements on all approved applications that meet standards set by internal/external guidelines.
• Provide loan support to Member Service Representatives in branch and indirect dealerships.
• Verify loan documentation for accuracy, completion, and adherence to policies and procedures.
• May assist with visiting dealerships, developing dealer relationships, etc.
• Understanding of all policies and procedures and compliance related issues, specifically BSA/AML and OFAC.
