JOB TITLE: CONTRACT INSTRUCTOR - DANCE OR FITNESS ENRICHMENT

Reports To: DANCE COORDINATOR

Compensation: CONTRACTED HOURLY RATE BASED ON EXPERIENCE AND FIELD

SUMMARY

Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation is seeking a skilled, passionate community member to lead a Dance and/or Fitness enrichment module for local homeschool students, ages 9–16 on Fridays from 1:30-2:20 PM (ages 9-10) and 2:30-3:20 PM (ages 11-16). Classes should be hands-on and accessible, covering general Dance or Fitness education. These classes are held on most Fridays, Sept.-May. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 21 years of age minimum


• Plan and teach a 4-week class series in Dance or Fitness (runs every Friday) 


• Comfortable teaching Dance and/or Fitness basics to mixed-age, mixed-skill-level students


• Provide simple, achievable learning goals appropriate for ages 9–16


• Maintain a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment


• Communicate material and equipment needs to the Dance Program Coordinator


• Follow all MBCPR policies and safety procedures

ESSENTIAL DUITES AND REPONSIBILITES include the following:

• Plans and delivers a structured 4-week Dance or Fitness curriculum with clear, age-appropriate learning goals


• Prepares and organizes class structure, materials, and activities for each session


• Maintains a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment for mixed-age groups


• Communicates with the Dance Program Coordinator regarding attendance, supply needs, and student concerns


• Serves as a point of contact for parents regarding class content and student progress


• Adheres to MBCPR safety procedures and reports incidents promptly

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

Completes daily duties with efficiency and minimal supervision. Provides reports to the team weekly or as required.

COMMUNICATION – VERBAL AND WRITTEN

A clear communicator who shares information with the supervisor, team members, and parents to support smooth program operation. Must handle differences of opinion professionally, follow instructions conscientiously, and function well as part of a team.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, REQUIREMENTS, VISUAL ACUITY, AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work occurs primarily indoors, occasionally outdoors, in a variety of conditions. Tasks may require standing for long periods, lifting/carrying equipment or kits up to 50 pounds, and setting up/tearing down tech or building stations. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

• Standing for sustained periods


• Visual acuity to supervise safe use of tools and technology


• Exposure to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions
