Messing Roofing & Construction is a growing residential and commercial roofing company known for quality workmanship, strong customer relationships, and a commitment to operational excellence. As we continue to grow our family-owned, 40+ year company, we are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee our financial operations and help guide the company’s financial strategy.

Position Overview

The Controller will be responsible for managing all accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls for the company. This role will work closely with ownership and leadership to provide financial insights, maintain job-costing accuracy, manage cash flow, and support strategic decision-making.

The ideal candidate will have strong accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based industries, along with the ability to improve financial processes as the company grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger


• Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements


• Manage construction job costing and profitability reporting


• Monitor project budgets and analyze cost variances


• Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules


• Ensure accuracy of revenue recognition and project billing


• Manage cash flow forecasting and financial planning


• Coordinate with external CPA for tax filings and year-end audits


• Oversee insurance, bonding, and financial compliance requirements


• Supervise accounting staff, including AP, AR, and staff accountants


• Develop and maintain internal accounting controls and financial policies


• Provide financial analysis and reporting to company leadership


• Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems and financial processes

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field


• 5+ years of accounting experience


• Experience with construction or project-based accounting preferred


• Strong knowledge of job costing and WIP reporting


• Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles


• Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems


• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel


• Strong organizational, analytical, and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA certification


• Experience in the construction or roofing industry


• Experience supervising accounting staff


• Experience improving accounting systems and financial processes

Compensation & Benefits ($90,000-$100,000)
