The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the clinical practice, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with healthcare regulations. This role manages the accounting function, supports revenue cycle oversight, and provides financial insights to leadership to support operational and strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong accounting expertise and experience in healthcare finance, revenue cycle management, and multi-entity or multi-location practice environments.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensure timely preparation of financial statements
Ensure compliance with GAAP and healthcare financial regulations
Prepare financial reports and analysis for executive leadership and practice partners
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Revenue Cycle & Practice Finance
Oversee revenue cycle performance including billing, collections, reimbursement, and payer mix analysis
Monitor patient revenue, insurance reimbursements, and collection trends
Partner with revenue cycle teams to optimize billing efficiency and reduce denials
Internal Controls & Compliance
Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including healthcare and tax regulations
Coordinate audits, tax filings, and financial reviews with external auditors and advisors
Cash Flow & Operational Finance
Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital management
Monitor practice profitability, cost management, and operational efficiency
Identify opportunities for financial process improvements and system enhancements
Leadership & Team Development
Lead and mentor accounting and finance staff
Implement best practices in financial processes and reporting
Collaborate with operational leaders across the practice to support financial goals
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
CPA preferred
5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
Experience in healthcare, medical practices, or clinical environments preferred
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
Familiarity with healthcare revenue cycle management
Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting systems
Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
Preferred Experience
Experience with medical practice management systems or EHR platforms
Multi-location or multi-entity healthcare organization experience
Healthcare reimbursement models including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance
