Deseret News Publishing Company is seeking a Controller who exemplifies excellence in both technical and interpersonal skills. This position has ownership for all accounting processes, financial statement generation and accounting staff development.They must be a self-starter and problem solver, with an innovative, process improvement mindset, eager to bring greater efficiency and automation to business processes. They should alsoenjoy developing strong working relationships with senior leaders and other business partners across the organization.
This position reports directly to the CFO and has two to three direct reports. Based in our downtown Salt Lake City office, this role provides the opportunity for a hybrid schedule with up to two days a week working remotely.
Responsibilities :
Manages all daily and monthly accounting processes, including A/P, A/R and collections, cash and credit card transactions, sales commissions, fixed assets, etc.
Owns the monthly financial close process including completion of account reconciliations, accruals, revenue recognition and deferred revenue
Coordinates accounting efforts with and financial reporting for our parent corporation and its payroll, tax and legal teams
Prepares and reviews monthly financial statements and reports for the CFO and other business executives
Partners with multiple senior leaders, assisting in annual budgets, reporting, variance analysis and strategic planning
Establishes and maintains a strong internal controls environment and related policies and procedures
Contributes to internal and external audits

You will be a good fit if you have :
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required
CPA license and/or master’s degree in accounting or business is preferred
5+ years of relevant experience, including maintaining general ledgers, journal entries, and producing timely and accurate financial reports
Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and other financial/tech tools
ERP and system implementation experience is a plus
Detail oriented with the ability to analyze large data sets while also summarizing results for executive level discussions
Must be able to work independently (with minimal supervision) to ensure timely and accurate completion of projects
Must have strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects
Must have strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills
Excellent technical, oral, and written communication skills
