A mission-driven nonprofit organization with a strong focus on education and kiruv is seeking a Controller/CFO to lead its finance function across multiple programs and locations.
This individual will take ownership of accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and financial planning, while working closely with organizational leadership and individual Directors to manage budgets, understand revenue and expenses, and improve financial accountability across the organization.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can take charge, build structure, and give leadership better visibility into the financial performance of each program.
Lead the overall accounting and finance function for the organization
Oversee the annual budgeting process across all programs and locations
Partner closely with Directors to develop and manage individual budgets, track spending, and understand revenue and expense performance
Oversee revenue tracking, including tuition and other program-related revenue
Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reporting
Develop KPIs, dashboards, and reporting that provide leadership with clear visibility into financial and operating performance
Monitor cash flow and oversee cash management
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger activity
Manage financial controls and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting
Identify budget variances, financial risks, and opportunities to improve financial performance
Support forecasting, financial planning, and longer-term organizational decision-making
Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and other nonprofit reporting requirements with external professionals
Work closely with senior leadership, Directors, donors, and other stakeholders on financial matters
Improve financial processes, systems, reporting, and accountability as the organization continues to grow
Strong accounting background with the ability to oversee the full finance and accounting function
Previous nonprofit experience strongly preferred
Experience in education is a strong plus
Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, and financial analysis
Strong leadership skills with a proactive, take-charge approach
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with Directors, senior leadership, donors, and other stakeholders
Ability to build structure, establish accountability, and push initiatives forward
Strong business judgment and ability to translate financial information for non-finance leaders
Highly organized, driven, and comfortable operating in a hands-on environment
Strong alignment with the organization’s mission
