Role Overview
The Controls Engineer plays a key role in designing, developing, and implementing automated control systems for machinery and processes. This role ensures production efficiency, reliability, and safety by optimizing system performance and integrating advanced automation technologies. The position requires strong technical expertise in PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, and industrial automation, along with the ability to collaborate across teams and drive continuous improvement. Responsibilities include developing control schemes, testing and validating systems, troubleshooting issues, optimizing existing processes, and integrating new technologies. The Controls Engineer must be detail-oriented, innovative, adaptable, and committed to advancing automation capabilities.
Responsibilities & Duties
Design and develop control systems for automated machinery and equipment
Conduct system testing and validation procedures
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements
Develop and implement software for control systems
Troubleshoot and optimize existing control systems
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and operation manuals
Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
Monitor system performance and make necessary adjustments
Train personnel on the use and operation of control systems
Perform regular system maintenance and updates
Integrate new technologies into existing systems
Participate in the commissioning and start-up of new equipment
Provide technical support and expertise to other departments as needed
Analyze data from control systems to improve processes and efficiency
Collaborate with vendors and suppliers for equipment and software purchases
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
1-5yrs experience in programming, system layout, troubleshooting code of mechanical systems
Knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting
Knowledge of HMI and SCADA systems
Familiarity with industrial networking protocols and standards
Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
Technical Skills & Knowledge
PLC programming and troubleshooting
SCADA and HMI system development and configuration
Industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus)CAD software for control design
Programming languages: ladder logic, C, Python
Robotics and automation systems
Control system testing and validation methodologies
Understanding of safety standards and compliance requirements
Ability to analyze system data for process improvement
Reading and interpreting schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation

Hands-on experience with robotics and automation

Experience with software development and testing methodologies
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Physical ability to inspect and monitor equipment on-site when required
Work Environment
Primarily manufacturing or industrial production environments
Requires on‑site presence for equipment inspection, system testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning
Collaborative work across engineering, operations, maintenance, and vendor teams
