Job Description - Controls Engineer - Opportunity to Make a Difference

Nesco Resource is partnered with a privately owned custom chemical producer that extends manufacturing capabilities. They are searching for a talented Process Control Technician to join their team on a full time basis!

This position will be based out of our Columbus, Ohio plant.
This position will support both our Columbus, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan locations .

Travel to Michigan is planned to be approximately 20% 25% of time. Flexibility is a must as the amount of travel will vary based on active projects and regular, scheduled preventative maintenance.


The Process Control Engineer will support the hardware and software implementation of PLC control systems for our production processes. This position is responsible for understanding technical process information created by process engineering, communicating the design of the control system to both engineering and operations, and programming PLC logic based on this design. This position will work in closely with both production and maintenance staff to commission, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Cost estimating, specifying PLC hardware and software, specifying field devices, and working with IT to identify other required equipment for client projects
  • Coordinating with production to identify requirements for the program and develop the control strategy. Programming and test PLC logic (including Safety Instrumented Systems), creating engineering drawings and documentation, assisting with PSM compliance activities, and training operators.
  • Providing engineering support to process engineering, R&D, accounting, and business management team.
  • Researching new automation and controls technologies and procedures that could improve plant processes and determine if they are suitable for use at CRC.
  • Supporting the design, specification, installation, startup and validation of process control systems, electrical systems and instrumentation for client and improvement projects.
  • Ensuring compliance of automation systems to good engineering practice and applicable company standards. Identify and execute automation improvement projects and support management of change (MOC) reviews.
  • Providing 24/7 troubleshooting support to operations.
  • Programming PLC controls associated with new automation to support client projects and continuous improvement automation initiatives.
  • Be willing to travel to support CRC's facility in Detroit, Michigan. Expect 20-25% travel.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of common standards (ISA/PIP/etc) for specification of instruments, control systems design, piping and instrumentation diagrams and safety instrumented systems
  • 5 years' experience in process control systems & automation in chemical, petrochemicals, or other type of process industry
  • Experience with DCS/PLC control systems and hardware
  • Experience programming DCS/PLCs and HMI graphics (Allen Bradley preferred).
  • Experience with alarm design and alarm system management
  • Experience troubleshooting control programming and industrial control systems.
  • Experience with project management
  • Experience creating engineering drawings (AutoCad and/or AutoCad LT is preferred) and control system specifications.
  • Familiarity with control system architecture.
  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM)
  • Familiarity with Risk Management Program (RMP)
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment and preferably the ability to use a respirator
