Controls Technician - Field/ Automation and Renewable Energy

Description

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Field Technician to join our growing team at ASG. In this dynamic role, you’ll split your time between traveling to customer sites across the continental U.S. (approximately 35%) and working hands-on at our manufacturing facility in Rocky Hill, CT.

As a Field Technician, you'll be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reworking of advanced industrial automation and renewable energy systems. This is a key role that combines technical expertise with a customer-focused mindset, ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, hands-on work, and variety in their day-to-day responsibilities.

Requirements

What You’ll Do:

• Install, commission, and maintain control systems and equipment at customer sites and in-house.
  
• Diagnose and repair electrical and control circuit issues.
  
• Interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
  
• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to support system performance and delivery.
  
• Document service reports, maintenance logs, and technical findings.
  
• Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  
• Assemble components, wiring, and PLC equipment, using hand and power tools.
  
• Participate in general shop floor activities when not traveling.
  

What We’re Looking For:

• 2–5 years of experience in electrical or automation systems (field service experience preferred)
  
• Ability to travel domestically as required (up to 35%)
  
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  
• Comfortable using tools like drills, knockout punches, jigsaws, etc.
  
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
  
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals
  
• OSHA or relevant safety training is a plus
