General Summary:


A cook prepares, seasons, and cooks food at the facility or designated location, ensuring quality, proper plating, and adherence to safety/sanitation standards. They work under chefs, managing workstations, measuring ingredients, and operating equipment like grills or ovens. Key skills include multitasking, speed, and following recipes.  They may provide direction and training for other food service workers as needed.

Education, Licensure, Registration and Experience:


Equivalent of four years of high school with completion of on the job training in principles of food cooking preferred.


Minimum of two years of some formal or on the job training in food preparation, cooking and principles of sanitation and safety preferred.


 


Essential Functions:


Preparation and presentation of foods for patients, visitors and employees.


Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives.


Performs work of equal skill and responsibility as directed. May also perform work of higher level in preparation of increased responsibility and may be requested to do work of lesser responsibility when the work load of this department so requires.


Coordinates standards of quality food handling with proper sanitation standards.


Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization's overall mission.


Responsible for cleaning and proper use of equipment.


Works cooperatively with the serving staff insuring high quality food is being served and proper amounts are being maintained.

Standards of Employment:


Attends all mandatory education programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance.


Appearance is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment. Wears proper photo identification badge while on duty.


Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times, as observed by peers and management.


Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding process with manager to assure effective and timely two-way communications.


Participates in and completes required department specific education and training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards.


Follows safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
