About the Role


The Cook I is an entry-level culinary professional responsible for supporting kitchen operations through food preparation, cooking assistance, food safety compliance, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. This role provides an excellent opportunity to build culinary skills while contributing to the delivery of high-quality meals that support the health and well-being of New Freedom members and staff.

What You’ll Be Responsible For



  • Assisting with food preparation, ingredient prep, and basic cooking activities

  • Following recipes and preparation guidelines to ensure consistency and quality

  • Maintaining kitchen cleanliness, organization, and sanitation standards

  • Assisting with receiving, labeling, storing, and rotating food inventory

  • Supporting food plating and presentation standards

  • Following all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures

  • Meals are prepared accurately and consistently

  • Kitchen areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with food safety standards

  • Ingredients are properly stored, labeled, and rotated

  • Team members can rely on strong support during meal preparation and service

  • Food quality and kitchen efficiency remain high

What We’re Looking For



  • High school diploma or GED

  • Valid Food Handler's Certification (can obtain after hire)

  • Zero to two years of kitchen or food service experience

  • Strong multitasking, organization, and time management skills

  • Ability to lift 30–50 pounds and stand for extended periods

  • Previous restaurant, institutional, or healthcare food service experience preferred

  • CPR/First Aid and crisis de-escalation certifications preferred

Environment + Physical Demands


A fast-paced commercial kitchen environment supporting members, guests, and staff. Ongoing adherence to food safety, sanitation, chemical safety, and workplace safety standards is essential.

  • Extended periods of standing, walking, lifting, and food preparation activities

  • Frequent use of knives, cooking equipment, refrigeration systems, and commercial kitchen tools

  • Ability to lift and move supplies, ingredients, and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds (with some duties requiring 30–50 pounds)
