Begins in May ends in August, schedule Monday-Friday will vary between the hours of 5:00am-5:00pm

Pay Rate: $17.50 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Kids Café Cook is responsible for a large quantity of food preparation for meal programs. This position must follow standardized recipes, and scaling practices adhering to appropriate serving sizes. Follow menus as directed by the production chef and operations manager. Additional responsibilities include maintaining food storage areas including thawing, and pre-preparation for meal items.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Reliable, consistent, on-site attendance is a requirement. This position requires punctuality and dependable attendance to meet the needs of the business, including attending and participating in meetings and presentations.
  2. Prepares food by following standardized recipes, and scaling practices adhering to appropriate serving sizes.
  3. Thaws and prepares menu foods according to food safety standards.
  4. Stores and maintains food according to food safety standards.
  5. Maintains kitchen area according to all food safety standards.
  6. Follows the cycle menu as directed by the Culinary Leadership Team.
  7. Checks and records the temperature of products.
  8. Maintains all temperature logs for responsible products.
  9. Ensures inventory is available for required recipes.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma from an accredited school or general education development (GED) certificate
  • 1 year of Institutional food production preferred
  • SERV Safe food handlers certification preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in a kitchen, the employee is frequently exposed to freezers, enclosed and/or tight spaces, wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, strong food-related smells, and outside weather conditions. The employee will be exposed to loud/elevated noises throughout the workday.

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

No travel is required for this role.

This role supports hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities, as necessary, and may require flexibility (e.g., times of disaster, community events, company events).
