Location: Food Services Administration \n\nDepartment: Farm to School - Nutrition Services \n\nArea:North \n\nContract Months:12 \n\nSalary Range: $85,000.00 \u2013 $105,000.00 \n\nAcademic Year: 26-27 \n\n## JOB SUMMARY\n\nThe Farm \u0026 School Garden Education Coordinator leads the strategic design development, implementation, and sustainability of hands-on, curriculum-aligned agriculture education across schools and district farm sites. This role integrates STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Math) based experiential learning into school garden programming, farm-based field trips, workforce development, and community partnerships to create a seamless farm-to-classroom learning pipeline impacting PK-12 students. This position works closely with the Farm to School CTM, Production Coordinator, Divisional DYAD Coordinators, DYAD Consultants and CTE Agriculture Pathway Coordinators and teachers ensuring that student learning experiences align with high quality instructional priorities, agricultural production schedules, and food safety standards.\n\n## MAJOR DUTIES \u0026 RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nList most important duties first \n1\\. Conducts site-based assessments of school gardens, outdoor learning environments, and district farm education spaces to identify instructional needs, safety considerations, and opportunities for program improvement \n2\\. Develops, adapts, and disseminates TEKS-aligned garden and farm-based curriculum, and instructional materials that integrate STEAM concepts, food systems education, environmental literacy, and career awareness for PK\u201312 students\n\n3\\. Coordinates farm-based field trip and experiential learning opportunities, including the development of pre-visit and post-visit instructional resources to reinforce classroom learning \n4\\. Works in partnership with the Farm to School CTM and Production Coordinator to ensure educational activities are aligned with agricultural production schedules, food safety requirements, and operational protocols \n5\\. Design and manage a district-wide farm field trip program that maximizes student participation and learning impact.\n\n6\\. Coordinates the facilitation of professional learning, technical assistance, and instructional support for DYAD Consultants, teachers and campus staff implementing garden- and farm-based education.\n\n## MAJOR DUTIES \u0026 RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED\n\n7\\. Ensure instructional materials and learning experiences reflect inclusive and equitable practices, including multilingual accessibility, culturally responsive content, and accommodations for diverse learners. \n8\\. Support student engagement through the coordination of garden clubs, youth leadership activities, summer food systems camp, workforce development experiences, and career-connected learning opportunities as appropriate.\n\n9\\. Maintain collaborative relationships with internal departments and external partners to enhance instructional resources, programming capacity, and student learning opportunities. \n10\\. Collect and organize participation data, instructional documentation, and program feedback to support continuous improvement, reporting requirements, and stakeholder communication. \n11\\. Support compliance with HISD policies, procedures, and safety standards related to outdoor education, student activities, and agricultural learning environments. \n12\\. Other duties as assigned. (Note: No additional information is needed in this text box.)\n\n## EDUCATION\n\nBachelor\u0027s Degree required Master\u0027s Degree (preferred)\n\n## WORK EXPERIENCE\n\n3 to 5 years\n\n## SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION\n\nSoftware \nMicrosoft Office\n\nCertifications/Licensure \nTeacher Certification (Preferred).\n\nEquipment \nOffice equipment (e.g., computer, copier) \nPower tools (e.g., radial saw, reciprocating saw, drill pneumatic hammer) \nHand tools (e.g. hammer, shovel, screwdriver) \nVehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, tractor, forklift)\n\n## LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nNo supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff.\n\n## WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT\n\nWork involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an \"as needed\" basis.\n\n## BUDGET AUTHORITY\n\nCompiles and organizes data and figures.\n\n## PROBLEM SOLVING\n\n-Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.\n\n## IMPACT OF DECISIONS\n\nFollow rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.\n\n## COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS\n\nBasic communication - very little communication required such as receiving basic instructions. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor, and co-workers in own department.\n\n## CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS\n\n-Follows through with customer inquiries, requests, and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.\n\n## WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS\n\nWork involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions.\n\nHouston Independent School District is an equal opportunity employer. \n
