The Student Union, Inc. is 501(c)(3) nonprofit auxiliary that maintains three major facilities at San José State University in downtown San José, California. These facilities include the Diaz Compean Student Union Building, the Provident Credit Union Event Center, and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. The Student Union, Inc. functions as part of the Student Affairs Division on campus, and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a student majority, faculty, and administrators.

Job Summary
The Bowling Center Coordinator of Bowling Center Operations is responsible for the functional coordination of day-to-day operations in the Student Union Bowling Center. This includes ordering supplies, processing of reservations and managing the staff schedule, among other duties related to the successful operation of the Center. The position reports to, and receives general supervision and direction from the Bowling Center Manager.

Essential Functions and Tasks
- Assist the Manager in the hiring, training, and supervision of student assistants to ensure all program participants are oriented to program rules, policies and procedures, and verify eligibility requirements for all participants.
- Review and monitors Student Assistant Supervisors reconciliation of receipts after their shifts; approves all daily cash and financial transactions associated with the Bowling Center and Brunswick Sync POS systems
- Responsible for monitoring and ordering program equipment/supplies as needed for theBowling Center and Billiards Room.
- Produces weekly schedule for Bowling Center staff via WhenToWork .
- Manages reservation process for special events in the Bowling Center and Billiards area.
- Coordinates Academic Bowling Class activities with the Department of Kinesiology during the academic year.
- Provides feedback and assists in the hiring and training of student staff.
- Provides leadership to the Bowling center during the evening, weekends and anytime in the absence of the Bowling Center Supervisor.
- Responsible for cleanliness of the facility.
- Assists the Manager in the implementation of emergency procedures, safety practices and risk management procedures and ensures all activities are conducted in accordance to industry standards and safety procedures.
- Monitors the entire bowling facility area for maintenance needs and repairs. Performs minor maintenance and reports major repairs to supervisors.
- Assist the Manager with customer service standards and ensures consistent performance by student staff. Standards to be consistent with those set by the Student Union.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Demonstrated experience in operations of a Bowling Center operations, Brunswick Sync POS systems, and equipment, and programs.
- Demonstrated experience in organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating work activities in a customer service setting.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience including selecting, training, coordinating, evaluating, and supervising student employees.
- Collaborative partner with various campus departments to support success of the Bowling Center.
- Ability to communicate clear and concise analytical comments, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, to prepare accurate financial statements and reports.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and principles.
- Ability to review.
- Excellent customer service, ability to manage conflicts, and create an inclusive environment. Effectively and frequently with students, campus community members, vendors and the general public.
- Experience in computer applications such as: Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, etc.) Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Physical Demands and Work Environment.
- The position works in a wide variety of environments including both a typical office as well as an indoor facility program-oriented environment.
- The physical demands of this position are described below:
1. Sitting, walking, twisting, bending, climbing, pulling, pushing, squatting, crawling, kneeling, balancing, reaching, and coordination (eye, hand, foot)
2. Fall (Slip, Trip) Conditions that result in falls (impacts) from height or traditional walking and playing surfaces
3. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone
4. Dexterity of hands, fingers, and wrist to operate a computer keyboard and calculator

5. Light mechanical and portering work which includes resetting pins, changing of belts and removal of oil from equipment and pins
- Physical agility to lift, carry, push, or pull objects frequently 10-25lbs, occasionally 26- 50lbs.
- The typical schedule is 3p.m. - 11 p.m., Tuesday - Saturday. The schedule will vary, based on operational needs of the Bowling Center, which operates 7 days a week during the semester.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management or a related field.
- One year of supervisory and management employment experience in collegiate or commercial bowling center management including selecting, training, coordinating, evaluating, and supervising student employees.
- Obtain CPR/First Aid and AED certifications within the first month of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Recreation, Student Development, or related field.
- Two years of supervisory and management employment experience in collegiate or commercial bowling center management including selecting, training, coordinating, evaluating, and supervising student employees.
- Holds current CPR/First Aid and AED certification.
- Demonstrated experience in large student recreation centers, student unions, student activities, and residence life or student development.
- Experience in a large, non-profit corporation.
- Experience within a university community, including student unions, student activities, and residence life or student development.

Background Check and Fingerprinting
Student Union employees are required to undergo and completed a successful background check that includes verification of employment and education, as well as a check of criminal records for employment. This policy includes emergency hires and may also be applicable to volunteers depending on the work performed.

In some cases, the background check will include a credit check and/or a Department of Motor Vehicles check, as well as a check of licenses and certificates when applicable. All background checks are conducted through the Student Union third-party vendor, Accurate Background.

Within the first month, all employees are required to complete the following compliance online training sessions through CSULearn, the University's employee training platform.
