General Description
The Coordinator of Discipleship and Missions will serve as a liaison to both the Discipleship and the Mission and Outreach committees. This position focuses on equipping people to grow in their faith and serve, as part of that growth. This person must have a passion for helping others engage and grow their faith. Additionally, this person will serve as the primary pastoral relationship and spiritual leader for the young people at Oakland. The position reports to the Pastor. Salary will be determined based on experience. Performance and compensation will be reviewed annually by the personnel committee.
Key Responsibilities
Work with the Discipleship committee to plan, coordinate and lead programming for Children, Middle School and High School Youth Groups as well as Adult Ministry that is attractive to believers and non-believers (including selection of curriculum with session approval and coordination with pastor)
Create relationships with the youth based on mutual trust by spending time, informally, with them in relaxed environments, engaging them in their areas of interest.
Encourage and equip the congregation to participate in accomplishing the mission of Oakland. (ex. Vacation Bible School, Worship Participation, and church ministries)
Resource mission needs and service projects, creating opportunities for the congregation (all ages) to engage with the local community and beyond (ex. Habitat for Humanity, Soup Kitchens, Food Pantries.).
Build relationships and create activities with parents that will help them guide and direct their children and families spiritually.
Identify, lead, and mentor volunteers to grow in their faith and their ability to lead ministries for youth, children and adults.
Ensure the training and background records are maintained for all adult volunteers in accordance with Oakland Policy.
Ensure coordination of Nursery, Children’s Church, and Sunday School classes. Recommend curricula to the Session for approval; lead classes; train leaders, teachers, and volunteers; and maintain teachers’, leaders’, and volunteers’ schedules.
Coordinate with Discipleship and Mission & Outreach committees.
Research and coordinate camps, conferences, retreats, and mission trips for the youth, and attend those events as appropriate.
Work with Discipleship and Mission committees respectively to plan and execute Special youth events and fundraisers.
Engage with the Presbytery to identify outreach programs and other opportunities that may be beneficial
Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.
