The Coordinator is responsible for providing quality patient care by demonstrating clinical competence, leadership, and by participating in Performance Activities.  He/she oversees professional nursing care utilizing the Nursing Process with special attention to the needs and behaviors of the patient population. The coordinator will be responsible for the continuum of nursing care for the patient in the radiation oncology department. He/she will provide education related to the medications the patient receives, skin care, radiation side effects both acute and chronic, discharge instructions and any post treatment needs. In addition, the coordinator will have ongoing communication with the Department to ensure that charges are being put into the charge master and reimbursement is appropriate. The Coordinator will oversee the mentoring of new nursing staff, and facilitates an atmosphere of participative management and teamwork among nursing staff. Assist in managing the provision of patient care through integrating the functions of the Health Care Teams.

Education/Training: Associates Degree in Nursing or health related field required.  Bachelor's preferred. Graduate of an NLN accredited school of nursing. Ability to read, write and communicate in English.  ONS/ONCC Radiation Therapy Certificate Course within 6 months of employment.

Experience:  Minimum of one (1) year oncology nursing experience required. Demonstrates sound clinical skills and an understanding of nursing process, standards of practice and positive communication skills. Demonstrated participation on committees and PI activities.

Licensure, Registration or Certification: Current New York State licensure as a registered professional nurse; Current BLS, Chemotherapy/biotherapy certificate course within 1 year and Oncology certification within 2 years of hire.  ACLS a plus.
