Job Summary
Supervises technical staff in Lab office area to assure the correct performance of their duties. Supervises that patient samples are received, processed and accurate-timely results are available. Supervises phlebotomy area for efficient processing. Gathers data for Quality Assurance and report monthly – follows with corrective action and plan for improvement. Complies with regulatory requirements. Maintains staff training and competency. Maintains bidirectional communication with staff and superiors. Back up other supervisors when needed.
REQUIRED LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities
Develops, maintains, updates SOPM in this section for specimen processing, analyzing and result reporting. Keep all staff informed of any changes in the department.
Performs and assumes responsibility for tests analysis conducted by subordinate technologists /technicians. Assess patient data relative to his/her age & gender.
Oversees lab office areas inclusive of clerical and phlebotomy functions, specimen integrity, receiving, processing and timeliness of the above. Maintain efficient workflow.
Responds to inquiries from physicians, nursing units, emergency room, etc. regarding test results as needed. Follow through specimen and result inquiry.
Monitor and maintain specimen logs.
Assists the Lab Director in obtaining proper and most beneficial instrumentation and/or methodology. Performs validation with vendor and maintains all documents. Maintains service, repair and maintenance records for the life of all instruments. Perform regulatory requirements for instruments as required.
Trains personnel in the use of the applicable instruments. Maintain staff competency.
Gives suitable assignments and instructions to employees and assists in training new employees. Schedules available staff for proper coverage in to maintain high efficiency and throughput.
Bring all deficiencies immediately to attention of lab Director. Plans and implements corrective action plan and follow through.
Prepares statistical and quality assurance reports. Plans and implements corrective action plan and follow through.
Coordinates all proficiency testing, maintaining proper documentation of processing, investigation and corrective actions.
Orders and maintains phlebotomy supplies. Maintains proper coverage for phlebotomy on all shifts. Maintains training and competency on staff performing phlebotomy.
Assures the maintenance of suitable records and files in accordance with record retention policies including temperature and maintenance records.
Maintains bidirectional communication with staff and superiors in timely manner.
Maintains Right to Know manual current with all necessary SDS Sheets
Follows established departmental policies and procedures. Maintains quality control, maintenance, safety, environmental and infection control standards and records.

Other Job duties
Participates in mandated annual educational programs and in-service meetings.
Responds to inquiries from nursing units, emergency room, etc. regarding test results as needed.
Ability to analyzer, comprehend and interpret rules, regulation, policies, procedures and objectives of the organization.
Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate and informative report of records and files.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Education
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. ASCP certification required. Five years of experience in Clinical Laboratory and two years of experience in supervisory capacity, with broad experience in all lab areas. Familiarity with other laboratory sections for back up other supervisors.
Position Qualifications
Knowledge of the practical and theoretical procedures in laboratory relative to work performed in a clinical laboratory.

Continuous response to nursing and physician inquiries with follow up
Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external customers
Protective clothing worn: gloves, lab coat, protective glasses or face shield.
