Job Description - Corporate Controller

Corporate Controller


 


Position Overview:


 


We are seeking an experienced Corporate Controller to be part of the robust financial team of our growing construction-based group of companies. The Corporate Controller oversees all accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the implementation of efficient financial systems. This role is critical for safeguarding company assets, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring sound financial management.


 


Key Responsibilities:


 



  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:

    • Prepare and present accurate financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

    • Analyze financial performance and trends to inform executive decision-making.



  • Accounting Operations:

    • Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.

    • Develop and maintain a system of controls to ensure the integrity of financial data.



  • Budgeting & Forecasting:

    • Collaborate with leadership to create annual budgets and rolling forecasts.

    • Monitor budget adherence and provide variance analyses.



  • Compliance & Risk Management:

    • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.

    • Coordinate internal and external audits and respond to audit findings.

    • Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and regulations.



  • Strategic Financial Management:

    • Participate in long-term financial planning and strategy development.

    • Provide insights and recommendations for cost management and revenue enhancement.



  • Team Leadership & Development:

    • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to build a high-performing department.

    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.



  • System Management:

    • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and software.

    • Optimize processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.




 


Qualifications:


 



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).

  • CPA or CMA certification (preferred).


 


Experience:


 



  • 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a management role.

  • Experience in corporate accounting within the construction industry (preferred).


 


Skills:


 



  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal abilities.


 


Work Environment:




  • On-site position

  • Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment requiring strong multitasking skills


 


Key Metrics for Success:




  • Accuracy and timeliness of financial reports

  • Effective management of the accounting team and systems

  • Compliance with all regulatory and audit requirements

  • Contribution to strategic financial goals


 


Physical Requirements:


 



  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, up to eight hours per day, though possibly more.

  • Sufficient manual dexterity to successfully use a computer.

  • Sometimes required to stand and/or walk, and make occasional trips from the office area to other site buildings or downstairs to lower training meeting rooms.
