Corporate EHS Manager

We are looking for a corporate EHS Manager to work in Jackson Michigan, Detroit Michigan, or Butler Pennsylvania.   The Corporate EHS Manager is responsible for the overall development, implementation, and management of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs, policies, and objectives across all JSP locations (Tullahoma, TN; Butler, PA; Detroit, MI; Jackson, MI; and Milledgeville, IL). This position provides strategic direction and technical expertise to ensure company-wide compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local EHS regulations. The Corporate EHS Manager leads and manages EHS personnel, including EHS Specialists and EHS Coordinators at designated locations, and provides support and guidance to all sites to drive continuous improvement in EHS performance and foster a strong safety culture. This role is critical in addressing company-wide EHS issues and ensuring consistent application of EHS standards. 

Key responsibilities: 

• Develop, Implement, and Maintain Corporate EHS Management Systems and Programs: Responsible for the strategic development, writing, and oversight of the implementation of company-wide environmental, health, and safety management systems, policies, and programs for all JSP locations. This includes establishing annual corporate EHS goals, providing authoritative guidance to all sites on program requirements, and ensuring programs meet regulatory standards and industry best practices. 
• Ensure Company-Wide Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management: Provide leadership and technical expertise to ensure all JSP locations comply with applicable Federal, State (including TN, PA, MI, and IL specifics), and local EHS regulations. This involves monitoring regulatory changes, ensuring proper environmental permits are in place and managed company-wide, overseeing corporate reporting requirements, and participating in reviews and approvals related to management of change for new equipment, processes, and products to ensure potential hazards are identified and mitigated. 
• Lead and Manage Corporate EHS Personnel and Provide Site Support: Directly manage, mentor, and develop EHS Specialists and EHS Coordinators at the Tullahoma, Butler, and Jackson locations, providing guidance, performance management, and technical support. Provide expert EHS support, guidance, and information to plant management and personnel at all JSP locations, including those without direct reports (Detroit and Milledgeville), to ensure effective EHS program execution and compliance. 
• Oversee and Strategize Company-Wide EHS Training: Develop the corporate strategy and standards for EHS training programs across all locations. Identify company-wide EHS training needs and oversee the development, implementation, and effectiveness of training programs designed to ensure all personnel are adequately trained in relevant EHS topics and procedures. Provide guidance and training on effective training delivery methods to site EHS personnel. 
• Establish and Manage Company-Wide Incident Investigation and Performance Analysis: Set corporate standards and procedures for EHS incident reporting, investigation (including root cause analysis), recordkeeping, and the implementation and tracking of corrective and preventive actions across all locations. Lead or participate in investigations of significant incidents. Analyze company-wide incident data, performance metrics, and trends to identify systemic issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Monitor and provide input on lost-time injuries and Workers' Compensation claims. 
• Manage Corporate EHS Audits, Inspections, and Management Systems (ISO 14001/45001): Develop, implement, and manage a corporate internal EHS audit program to assess the effectiveness of EHS programs and compliance at all locations. Oversee and participate in internal and external EHS audits (including regulatory and insurance audits), ensuring findings are addressed. Lead the corporate Environmental Management System (ISO 14001), ensuring its adequacy and effectiveness, and support the implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001 across applicable sites, potentially serving as the corporate management representative for these standards. Oversee the use of the EHS management information system for tracking audit findings and other relevant data. 
• Drive EHS Culture and Cross-Functional Integration: Promote a strong, positive EHS culture across all JSP locations through leadership, communication, and engagement. Collaborate effectively with corporate leadership, plant management, and other departments (e.g., HR, Operations, Engineering, Purchasing) to integrate EHS considerations into all business activities, from planning and design to daily operations. 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements 

This role involves a combination of office-based administrative responsibilities and significant time spent in manufacturing plant environments across multiple locations. While office work is required for strategic planning, program development, data analysis, and administrative tasks, regular travel to JSP's manufacturing sites (Tullahoma, Butler, Jackson, Detroit, and Milledgeville) is a necessary component of the position to provide oversight, support, conduct audits, and interact with site EHS personnel and plant leadership. 

The work environment in manufacturing plants may involve exposure to noise, dust, varying temperatures, and industrial processes. The Corporate EHS Manager must be able to navigate these environments safely. 

Physical requirements include the ability to travel, stand and walk for periods while conducting site visits and inspections, and the ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated plant areas. Effective verbal communication skills are essential for interacting with employees, conducting meetings, and responding to situations in potentially noisy manufacturing settings. The role requires the ability to perform tasks involving prolonged sitting and computer use when in an office setting.

Requirements

• Comprehensive Knowledge of EHS Regulations and Standards: Deep understanding of Federal, relevant State (TN, PA, MI, IL), and local occupational safety, health, and environmental regulations, including OSHA standards and environmental compliance requirements for manufacturing operations (NAICS 326199).  
• EHS Management System Development and Implementation: Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage comprehensive company-wide EHS management systems, including those aligned with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.  
• Strategic Planning and Program Development: Ability to develop strategic EHS objectives, translate them into actionable programs and policies, and oversee their implementation across multiple sites.  
• Leadership and Team Management: Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage, mentor, and develop EHS professionals (Specialists and Coordinators) at various locations. Ability to influence and gain commitment from plant management and employees at all levels.  
• Multi-Site EHS Management: Experience managing EHS programs and challenges across multiple manufacturing facilities with varying regulatory requirements and operational complexities.  
• Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis: Advanced skills in leading complex incident investigations, performing thorough root cause analysis, and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions. 
• EHS Auditing and Performance Analysis: Proficiency in developing and conducting EHS audits, analyzing EHS performance data and trends, and using this information to drive continuous improvement. 
• Training Program Strategy and Oversight: Ability to identify company-wide training needs, develop strategic training plans, and oversee the implementation and effectiveness of diverse EHS training programs.  
• Risk Assessment and Hazard Analysis: Expertise in conducting and overseeing hazard analyses and risk assessments (e.g., Process Hazard Analysis) related to manufacturing processes, equipment, and new initiatives.  
• Communication and Presentation Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex EHS information to diverse audiences, including senior leadership, plant management, and employees. Strong presentation and training delivery skills.  
• Problem-Solving and Decision Making: Ability to analyze complex EHS issues, develop practical solutions, and make informed decisions under pressure.  
• EHS Information Systems Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in using EHS management information systems (e.g., Velocity EHS) for data management, reporting, and program tracking. 
• Collaboration and Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build positive working relationships across all levels of the organization. 

Preferred Qualifications: (Additional skills, certifications, education, or experiences that would be beneficial.) 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in occupational safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related technical field. 
• 7-10+ years of progressive experience in environmental, health, and safety roles within a manufacturing or similar industrial setting, with a significant portion in a leadership or management capacity.  
• Proven experience managing EHS programs and personnel across multiple manufacturing locations.  
• Relevant professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).  
• Experience with EHS management systems implementation and auditing (ISO 14001, ISO 45001).  
• Demonstrated experience presenting complex technical and regulatory information to diverse audiences, including senior management.
