Position Summary

The Corporate Sponsorship Officer is a dynamic frontline fundraiser responsible for leading strategic partnership philanthropy in support of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist (AHWFB) and Wake Forest University School of Medicine. This role drives meaningful philanthropic partnerships by managing a diverse constituency; encompassing foundations, corporations and strategic partners; to advance the institution’s priorities and strategic initiatives.

Operating with strategic autonomy and entrepreneurial drive, the Corporate Sponsorship Officer cultivates lasting relationships with corporate leaders, navigates complex organizational dynamics, and develops highly competitive proposals that align donor interests with institutional needs. This position works in close partnership with Platform Leaders, departmental leadership, and the Director to ensure coordinated, mission-driven fundraising outcomes.

Essential Functions

Corporate & Foundation Fundraising — 75%

  • Lead and grow corporate philanthropy for AHWFB, cultivating and soliciting prospects at all gift levels with emphasis on major and transformational gifts.

  • Manage a robust portfolio of prospects; orchestrate tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.

  • Develop highly competitive, mission-aligned proposals that compellingly translate AHWFB’s medical programs and research priorities for funders.

  • Research and identify new foundation and corporate prospects; analyze giving potential, funding trends, and strategic fit to inform proactive outreach.

  • Maintain rigorous contact schedules with prospective donors; create compelling presentations and cases for support that resonate with business interests and philanthropic goals.

  • Cultivate relationships with program officers at foundations to position AHWFB as a preferred funding partner at the local, regional, and national level.

  • Secure meaningful visits and engagements between institutional senior leaders, faculty, and administrators with corporate and foundation donors to advance key initiatives.

  • Ensure high-quality stewardship for all active prospects and donors, maintaining trust and deepening long-term partnerships.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement — 15%

  • Partner with Platform Leaders and departmental leadership to maximize corporate philanthropy across all AHWFB platforms in a coordinated and strategic manner.

  • Work closely with the Director of Events to establish sponsorship goals and develop targeted corporate prospect portfolios for all priority events and activities.

  • Direct Special Gift Officers in soliciting renewals of past corporate sponsors, ensuring continuity and growth of event-based revenue.

  • Manage volunteer committees and boards (e.g., Summerlark event) to execute volunteer-led solicitations effectively.

  • Build partnerships with faculty and medical leadership to identify programmatic strengths that can be matched to corporate and foundation funding opportunities.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the institution on prospects with joint or multiple interests, ensuring unified and strategic engagement.

Portfolio & Pipeline Management — 10%

  • Maintain a targeted subset portfolio of foundations to secure funding in support of AHWFB campaigns and special initiatives.

  • Ensure key cultivation and solicitation deadlines are clearly articulated and systematically met; advance plans on a defined timeline to meet philanthropic goals.

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of donor activity, contact reports, and moves management in the CRM system.

  • Monitor emerging foundation priorities and corporate giving trends to ensure AHWFB remains well-positioned for funding success.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Minimum five years of fundraising or external relations experience, with at least four years in corporate fundraising and two years in direct solicitation.

  • Demonstrated track record of successful solicitations and relationship management with foundations and corporate leaders.

  • Experience in an academic medical center, healthcare, or complex multi-stakeholder environment strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep knowledge of corporate and foundation giving processes, including an understanding of corporate marketing goals and philanthropic priorities.

  • Proven ability to develop and execute cultivation strategies with sensitivity to organizational dynamics and constituent motivations.

  • Exceptional written communication skills, including grant and proposal writing; demonstrated ability to translate complex medical research into compelling donor-facing language.

  • Strong verbal presentation and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and inspire donors, CEOs, and institutional leaders at the highest levels.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholder relationships simultaneously.

  • Experience building cross-functional collaborations across complex, matrixed organizations.

  • Proficiency with moves management systems and CRM platforms.
