CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION
The Department of Corrections has a current vacancy for a Correctional Compliance Program Specialist located at the Maine State Prison in Warren, Maine.  This position is open to Department of Corrections personnel and all outside applicants. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is professional services work in coordinating and managing operational standards and department policies for correctional facilities and community corrections in Maine.  Work includes monitoring performance management standards, compliance, policy implementation and processes within municipal, county, and/or state correctional facilities and community corrections. Work may also include participating as a member of a statewide audit team reviewing and investigating operational practices and unusual occurrences within the State and County Correctional System.  Work is performed under limited supervision.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

  • Coordinates and maintains performance management systems to track compliance with accreditation standards and other performance standards.
  • Develop and implement correctional facility standards to ensure compliance with departmental goals, objectives and policies.
  • Inspects adult and juvenile correctional facility physical plants and operations in areas such as administration, food service and sanitation, custody and security, adult and juvenile, male and female accommodations, control and discipline, medical and health services, activities and programs, rights, facility equipment and systems, and training to identify deficiencies.
  • Prepares and submits inspection reports which identify violations of correctional facility standards and federal and state laws and regulations to provide information, make recommendations, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Applies statistical methods to analyze and present data.
  • Monitors American Correctional Association standards to ensure compliance with procedures and processes, identify problems, and recommend corrective action.
  • Knowledge of American Correction Association Standards.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations relating to correctional facility standards.
  • Knowledge of State of Maine municipal, county, and state correctional facility standards.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of investigation principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of correctional classification systems, discipline, and security.
  • Knowledge of correctional supervision.
  • Reviews and maintains standard operating procedures and related documents to identify errors, inconsistencies, and possible procedural impact to assist in making necessary revisions and recommendations for change.
  • Reviews and analyzes policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to recommend revisions and improvements to management.
  • Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of life and safety codes.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural blueprints.
  • Assists PREA Manager by Monitoring Prison Rape Elimination Act standards to ensure compliance with procedures and processes, identify problems and recommend corrective action.
  • Knowledge of Prison Rape Elimination Act Standards
  • Knowledge of Federal Law, State Statute and Local Ordinances
  • Prepare and submit annual reports and required documentation to accrediting agencies in compliance with established standards and deadlines.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all accrediting agency inquiries, communications, and audits.
  • Interprets and applies federal, state laws, local ordinances, and accrediting agency standards to recommend updates to state and local correctional facility standards.
  • Reviews and reports on plans for renovation and new construction and consults with upper management to ensure plans follow established standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Education, training, and/or experience that provides a proven track record of success in correctional institution security, social services, resident care and custody programs, and/or community corrections programs and services.
