Description of Work
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
This position is located at Eastern Correctional Institution. Must have effective verbal & written communication with staff, offenders, and the general public. Be capable of defending oneself against attack by violent persons. Monitor off site programs, which may require operation of a motor vehicle in a safe/ secure manner at any time of day and in varying weather/ road conditions. Work under stressful
conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive. Conduct continuous visual/ audio surveillance of assigned work area. Accurately operate various office machines, prepare written reports/ forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various sources. Demonstrate/ instruct inmates in the proper safe use of tools/equipment/supplies. Review, analyze & evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation and personal observation. Perform crisis intervention/ routine counseling including suicide prevention. Effectively train, observe, evaluate, and supervise subordinate staff in duties/ responsibilities. Account for supplies, equipment, and develop/implement/manage correctional programs.

About the Division of Institutions:
The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
