Careers with the Department of Corrections ensure residents—from the recently incarcerated to the long-term committed—leave our facilities with the skills, treatment, and education needed to succeed after their period of incarceration. The Maine Department of Corrections Mission is to reduce the likelihood that juvenile and adult offenders will reoffend by providing practices, programs and services which are evidence-based, and which hold the offenders accountable.
Residents at Leading the Way Transition Center in Bangor are on probation or re-entering the community and need a place to hang their hat while that process is put in motion. This facility is an extension of the mission to help further ensure those clients moving on from our facilities and in the community have every opportunity to keep moving forward.
Sometimes physical security measures aren't enough to maintain a safe environment for residents. This is where we rely on our Correctional Resident Monitors to step in to ensure the premises are secure against fire, theft, vandalism and unauthorized entry within a State of Maine facility.
