So, what will the Cost Estimator do?

The Cost Estimator will support the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s (NGA) Mapping, Charting, and Geodesy (MC&G) Program Executive Office by developing and analyzing cost estimates for geospatial intelligence programs and acquisitions. This role plays a critical part in planning and budgeting for complex systems, data services, and technology development efforts. The estimator will provide cost data to inform decision-making, support procurement and contract planning, assess financial risk, and ensure program affordability throughout the system lifecycle. By working closely with engineers, program managers, and acquisition staff, the estimator helps ensure that MC&G capabilities are delivered effectively, efficiently, and within budget.

What does a typical day look like for the Cost Estimator?

You will:

  • Assist the MC&G PEO with the ability to provide cost estimating (analogous, parametric, bottoms up, etc.) for the MC&G SOC/ICBD and create spreadsheets and pivot tables that facilitate the cost estimation of a system of systems within the IT organization.
  • Assist the MC&G PEO with the gathering and compiling of data required for cost estimating.
  • Manage the overall MC&G PEO development and updating of an ICBD cost estimate.
  • Coordinate data gathering and cost estimation between MC&G PEO and other organizations to ensure a comprehensive cost estimate is completed.
  • Maintain awareness of MC&G Mission Domain-related programs, project, pilots and initiatives, and evaluate the impacts thereof to the ICBD.
  • Produce and manage ICBD artifacts and specifications as required by the MC&G PEO.
  • Support additional cost estimation outside of the MC&G PEO ICBD.
  • Support the execution and monitoring of MC&G PEO programs and budget.
  • Coordinate with other NGA organizations creating ICBDs and organizations receiving the NGA ICBDs to standardize the MC&G PEO ICBD.
  • Brief internal and external to MC&G PEO.
  • Authorization to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, operations research, or a related field.
  • 2 years of experience working with the National System for Geospatial Intelligence (NSG) community and its functions, with tasks to include understanding management processes and communication across all levels of the organizational hierarchy.
  • 2 years of experience with DoD and/or IC CAPE processes and templates.
  • 2 years of experience utilizing a variety of Cost Estimation techniques (e.g. analogous, parametric, bottoms)
