Job Summary

The Technical Trainer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering comprehensive training programs for Field Service Representatives (FSRs) within the medical device organization. This role ensures that service personnel possess the technical expertise, troubleshooting skills, regulatory knowledge, and customer-facing competencies required to install, maintain, and repair medical devices safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Training Development & Delivery

• Design and develop structured curriculum for new hire onboarding and ongoing technical training programs.
• Deliver instructor-led, virtual, and hands-on training sessions focused on medical device systems, diagnostics, and repair techniques.
• Create technical training materials including manuals, e-learning modules, videos, and job aids.
• Maintain training labs, equipment, and simulation environments to support experiential learning.

Technical Expertise

• Serve as subject matter expert (SME) on assigned medical device product lines.
• Train FSRs on installation, preventive maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Interpret technical documentation, service manuals, and engineering updates into effective training content.
• Stay current with product updates, software releases, and emerging technologies.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure all training programs meet FDA, ISO, and other regulatory requirements applicable to medical devices.
• Incorporate safety, compliance, and risk management practices into all training programs.
• Maintain accurate training records and documentation for audits and regulatory inspections.

Performance Assessment

• Evaluate trainee competency through written tests, practical assessments, and field observations.
• Provide coaching, feedback, and remediation plans to improve technician performance.
• Track training effectiveness using KPIs such as service quality, first-time fix rate, and customer satisfaction.

Collaboration

• Partner with Engineering, Quality, Product Management, and Service Leadership teams to align training with product changes and business needs.
• Support field teams by identifying skill gaps and recommending targeted training solutions.
• Assist in developing certification programs and career development pathways for FSRs.

Field Support

• Occasionally accompany field service representatives on customer visits to provide real-world coaching.
• Support escalated technical issues and contribute to root cause analysis.
• Gather field feedback to continuously improve training programs.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of experience in medical device field service, technical support, or related role.
• Prior training, instructional design, or teaching experience preferred.

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of electromechanical systems, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with medical device regulations (FDA, ISO 13485, GMP).

Training & Communication Skills

• Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
• Ability to simplify complex technical information for diverse audiences.
• Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and e-learning tools is a plus.

Other Requirements

• Strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
• Willingness to travel (up to 25–50%) to training sites and field locations.
