Barbara Chambers Children’s Center (BCCC) provides quality comprehensive early childhood education and child care services to the community at large, offering a variety of opportunities for children’s intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development in a clean, safe, and nurturing environment. In addition, it establishes a supportive environment where children can be themselves and feel at home. Each child is allowed to learn at their own pace and is encouraged to learn through their daily play. BCCC places a strong emphasis on the interrelated areas of emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

BCCC INFANT AND TODDLER program staff are responsible for preparing children for future success. In order to provide for the social, emotional, physical, and academic success for all children, the INFANT AND TODDLER teacher’s primary responsibility is to ensure children are in a healthy, safe environment by actively supervising children. Teachers must create a welcoming, caring, and nurturing environment for all children. Infant and Toddler teachers will observe children and assess the individual strengths and areas for growth. Information from these observations together with information from families provide teachers with information to use in developing child-centered, developmentally appropriate weekly lesson plans to promote child learning and active engagement. Teachers will implement the Creative Curriculum. Teachers will maintain ongoing two-way communication with families and use the required Parent Teacher Conferences (PTC) as an opportunity to share observations, child successes, and work samples with families.

 

Education/Experience Required:


  • Graduation from high school or GED.

  • Must have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Infant and Toddler.

  • At least twenty-four (24) credit hours from an accredited college or university, plus demonstrated.

  • CDA in Infants and Toddlers or Preschool, depending on the assigned age group.

  • One-year experience is required.

 

Qualifications:

It is required that all BCCC employees successfully pass the pre-employment process:


  • FBI fingerprint/background check

  • Drug and alcohol screening

  • Tuberculosis test

  • Police clearance

  • Vaccination requirement: BCCC requires all staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved religious or medical exemption.

 

Requirements:


  • Skill and competence with young children as satisfactorily determined by the Center Director.

  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written in Spanish or English

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage daily classroom activities

  • Participate in special or extracurricular activities as requested

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Google Suite

  • Participate in ongoing professional development

  • Communicate effectively with coworkers to maintain orderly classroom operations

  • Perform other duties as requested by Program Manager

  • Follow DC Public School calendar

Physical Requirements:


  • Walking, crouching, squatting, climbing stairs

  • Get up and down from a seated position on the ground

  • Lift up to 50 pounds

  • Occasionally required to stand for extended periods of time

  • Reach over the shoulder
