Job Description - Counselor



Full-time


Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in helping students identify, manage, and overcome mental and emotional challenges that may be impacting their academic performance. 

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide individual and group counseling to students to address mental and emotional issues.

- Actively listen to students and ask insightful questions to help them understand their challenges.

- Develop and implement strategies to assist students in improving their overall well-being and academic success.

- Collaborate with school staff to monitor and support students’ progress.

- Work with families and community resources to provide comprehensive support for students.

- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all counseling practices.

Skills and Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.

- Valid counseling license or certification as required by state regulations.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and school staff.

- Knowledge of mental health resources and community services.

- Empathy and a genuine desire to help students succeed.

Requirements

Requirements and Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Holds or is pursuing a license as a mental health care professional, i.e. LSW, LCSW, LPC or LMFT.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and school staff.
  • Knowledge of mental health resources and community services.
  • Empathy and a genuine desire to help students succeed.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple students and expectations.
  • Calm and cool-headed with a positive attitude.
  • Self-directed, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Proficient written and spoken communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills; organized and able to prioritize.
  • Able to organize and manage files, schedules, dates, and information.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
