Location: River Oaks Elementary School \n\nDepartment: River Oaks ES \n\nArea:Central \n\nContract Months:10 \n\nSalary Range: $64,000.00 \u2013 $89,500.00 \n\nAcademic Year: 26-27 \n\n## POSITION SUMMARY\n\nThe Professional School Counselor is responsible for counseling students to develop fully each student\u2019s academic, career, personal, and social abilities; plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive counseling/guidance program based on the defined needs of the students served; support the school\u2019s education programs and help promote the school\u2019s educational goals.\n\n## ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES\n\n * Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive counseling and guidance program.\n * Counsel individuals and small groups of students with presenting needs/concerns.\n * Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.\n * Guide individuals and groups of students through the development of career awareness and educational planning.\n * Coordinate with school and community personnel to bring together resources for students.\n * Use an effective process for assisting students and others to use special programs and services.\n * Assist students in course selection and manage graduation requirements.\n * Present the school comprehensive guidance curriculum.\n * Assist teachers in the teaching of the school comprehensive guidance curriculum.\n * Participate in the planning and evaluation of the district/school group standardized testing program. \n\n\n\n## ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES CONTINUED\n\n * Perform other counseling and guidance related duties as assigned.\n\n\n\n## POSITION REQUIREMENTS\n\nTexas Education Agency Counselor Certification.\n\n## Education\n\nMaster\u2019s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling and Guidance. \n \n\n## Experience\n\nTwo years exemplary teaching experience. \nWorking knowledge of personal computers and applicable software.\n\n## Other Requirements\n\nAbility to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the department. \nAbility to discern the sensitivity of internal/external communications in a large public organization and an awareness of the elements of public relations. \nAbility to work effectively with a diverse student and community population. \nAbility to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands to manipulate the keyboard. \nAbility to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, bend, climb and/or be mobile.\n\nHouston Independent School District is an equal opportunity employer. \n
