Job Description - CPA/EA

Job Title: CPA or EA
Location: Bakersfield, CA
Employment Type: Full-Time/Direct Hire
Salary Range: $80,000–$120,000 annually (DOE)

Position Overview

Legacy Staffing is seeking an experienced CPA or EA on behalf of our client for a leadership role in tax and accounting services. This position offers the opportunity to leverage technical tax expertise, analytical skills, and client service capabilities while mentoring staff and managing complex compliance and consulting projects. The ideal candidate will be a trusted advisor to clients, providing strategic guidance and fostering strong relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, identifying issues and proactively offering solutions
  • Manage compliance and consulting in areas such as Section 1031 exchange, Section 754 step-up, Section 163(j) interest limitation, and Section 1231 gain/loss calculations
  • Analyze and implement partnership/LLC operating agreements for tax applications
  • Provide recommendations to clients for achieving financial goals and growth opportunities
  • Research tax and accounting issues and provide guidance
  • Mentor, coach, and supervise staff; assist senior management in training and evaluations
  • Build client relationships through regular communication (calls/emails)
  • Oversee bookkeepers and review monthly financial statements
  • Handle high-level bookkeeping tasks such as payroll audits and journal entries
  • Prepare and/or review individual and business tax returns
  • Update tax estimates and assist with other filings (sales tax, 1099s, business property returns)
  • Stay current on tax education (firm-provided)
  • Manage complex bookkeeping for monthly and quarterly clients, including cost coding and closing out construction projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA or EA license required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in public accounting or related field
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • 3+ years of experience with QuickBooks Online or similar systems
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize effectively
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in applicable technology
