Job Description - Credit Review Director

The selected colleague will work at an MUFG office or client sites four days per week and work remotely one day. A member of our recruitment team will provide more details.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a team of examiners covering multiple portfolios including Project Finance, Energy, ABL, Aviation and international portfolios in Canada, Central America and South America.
  • Oversee execution of credit risk reviews and continuous monitoring to deliver independent assessments of credit quality and effectiveness of risk management practices within and across portfolios.
  • Evaluate transaction activities to ensure compliance with internal policies, approvals, monitoring standards, and risk frameworks.
  • Identify and assess existing and emerging credit risks, including transactions, and portfolio-level exposures, and ensure timely escalation to senior leadership.
  • Analyze risk rating accuracy, underwriting quality, credit approvals, monitoring practices, documentation, and credit administration processes to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor assigned portfolios to ensure aggregate risk remains within appetite and reflects current market conditions, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Prepare and deliver executive-level reports, presentations, and summaries for senior management, Board, and Risk Committee, clearly communicating findings and remediation plans.
  • Recommend and influence enhancements to credit policies, procedures, and systems, and lead or support review teams as Examiner in Charge when applicable.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 15+ years of banking experience, preferably within Credit Risk Management, Underwriting, or Originations - Required.
  • Experience in analyzing complex credit transaction structures including project finance - Preferred.
  • Experience managing teams.

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

  • Experience within credit review - Preferred.
  • Extensive background with the regulatory environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS

  • Advanced credit analysis capabilities with a strategic, risk-focused mindset.
  • In-depth knowledge of different credit products and sectors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present to executive audiences.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated people management, leadership, accountability, and initiative in complex environments.
  • Effective interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to influence and resolve conflict.
  • Flexible, decisive, and serves as a trusted advisor to senior leaders within the organization.
  • Leads by example, engaging inclusively and with intent.
  • Always acts with integrity.

EDUCATION

  • Degree or equivalent work experience equally preferable.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related technical discipline is preferred.
  • Advanced degree is desirable.

The typical base pay range for this role is between $168K - $219K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonuses and/or incentive compensation.
