Crew Technician

Position Summary:

The Crew Technician is a skilled trade position responsible for delivering high-quality weatherization services to income-eligible households across our service area. Working as part of a field crew under the direction of the Crew Lead and Operations Manager, the Crew Technician plays a central role in SEVCA's mission to improve the health, safety, comfort, and energy efficiency of the homes we serve. 

Job Responsibilities:

• Field Preparation and Readiness
  Arrive at the designated start time each morning prepared to work. Before departure, inspect and load crew trucks with the tools, materials, and equipment needed for the day's assignments, confirming that everything is accounted for and in good working order.
• Installation and Craftsmanship
  Install energy conservation measures in accordance with the work scope developed by the Energy Auditor, following established weatherization protocols, applicable codes, and program standards. Approach each installation with care and skill, with an eye toward quality, production goals, and the monitoring standards by which our work is evaluated.
• Teamwork and Communication
  Work cooperatively and effectively as part of a crew. Communicate clearly and proactively with the Crew Lead and teammates to support a safe, efficient, and well-coordinated worksite. Exercise good judgment by recognizing what needs to be done and acting on it, while bringing questions, concerns, or suggestions to the Crew Lead in a timely way.
• Client and Community Engagement
  Represent SEVCA professionally in every interaction with clients and the public. Treat clients, their families, and their homes with dignity, respect, and sensitivity — recognizing that we are guests in people's homes and that the quality of that experience matters as much as the quality of the work.
• Safety and Compliance
  Follow all job-site and vehicle safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment, ladders, staging, and hand and power tools. Adhere to SEVCA workplace policies related to attendance, conduct, and the appropriate use of agency vehicles and equipment.
• Site and Equipment Care
  At the end of each workday and upon job completion, clean and restock trucks, secure tools and materials, and leave the job site in clean and orderly condition. Maintain assigned tools and equipment, and assist the Crew Lead with routine vehicle and equipment maintenance. Support warehouse operations by assisting with loading and unloading materials and keeping storage areas organized.
• Documentation
  Maintain an accurate daily timesheet reflecting hours worked on each job, and submit it for review and approval by the Crew Lead or Operations Manager in a timely manner.
• Professional Development
  Actively pursue growth in your craft. Participate in training, workshops, and conferences relevant to weatherization techniques and program standards. Apply new skills and knowledge on the job, and contribute ideas that improve how our team works.
• Additional Duties
  Perform other duties as requested by the Crew Lead, Operations Manager, Program Director, or Executive Director that are consistent with this position, the Weatherization program, and the mission, goals, and priorities of SEVCA. 

Job Standards and Accountability:

The Crew Technician will be evaluated on the following standards of performance:

• Work is completed on time, meets quality benchmarks, and reflects program standards and applicable code requirements
• Job sites are left clean, safe, and in good order at the end of each day and upon project completion
• Tools, vehicles, and equipment are properly maintained and returned in good condition
• Timesheets are accurate, complete, and submitted on schedule
• Interactions with clients are professional, respectful, and consistent with SEVCA's values
• Safety procedures are followed consistently, and no preventable incidents result from failure to use proper protective equipment or follow established protocols
• The Crew Technician demonstrates initiative, reliability, and a willingness to learn and improve
• Work is conducted in accordance with SEVCA's workplace policies and the expectations of this position

Working Conditions:

Weatherization work is physically demanding and takes place in a variety of settings and weather conditions. Crew Technicians must be able to perform the essential duties of the job as follows: 

• Consistently be able to work Monday-Thursday, 7am-5pm (more or less, depending on the needs of the day).
• Begin and end workday at 91 Buck Dr., Westminster VT.
• Lift up to 50 pounds, sometimes overhead.
• Use ladders, small staging, and all major power and hand tools is required.
• Perform work in hard-to-reach locations such as crawl spaces, attics, and knee wall areas.
• Perform work in unpleasant weather and/or environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, dust, etc.).

The following are the minimum requirements for Crew Technicians:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Some construction experience or familiarity with and ability to use construction-related tools
• Ability to work independently with self-initiative and as an effective member of a team. 
• Commitment to treat clients with respect and dignity.
• Ability and willingness to actively work cooperatively with co-workers.
• Willingness to learn and apply new skills.

Preferred

• Light carpentry skills (demonstrated experience may result in a higher starting wage).
• Experience driving large (non-CDL required) vehicles (i.e., box truck).
• A valid driver's license and clean driving record (required if driving SEVCA vehicles, not required otherwise).
