Join Our Team at SARC!

Are you passionate about creating a safer, more supportive community?
SARC (The Sexual Assault/Spouse Abuse Resource Center) is seeking dedicated individuals to join us in our mission to be Harford County’s lifeline for victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, and stalking.

About SARC:
Established in 1978 through grassroots efforts, SARC has been at the forefront of providing essential services and support to those in need. From our humble beginnings, we’ve evolved into a comprehensive resource center offering shelter, advocacy, legal support, community outreach, and education services. At SARC, we believe in fostering an environment of trust, respect, and inclusivity, regardless of race, creed, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, or economic circumstances.

About the Role:

As a Crisis Specialist, you will provide immediate crisis intervention both in person and over the phone to clients experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, or other trauma. This essential position plays a critical role in SARC’s Lethality Project and hospital accompaniment program, supporting survivors with advocacy, safety planning, and referrals.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, advocacy, safety planning, and follow-up services to clients.

  • Respond to scheduled and unscheduled walk-in clients with immediate support and referrals.

  • Serve as primary responder for SARC’s chat helpline and assist with 24-hour helpline coverage.

  • Provide on-call support for law enforcement and survivors as part of the Lethality Project.

  • Conduct hospital accompaniment during and after regular business hours.

  • Educate clients on dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault, including the Power and Control Wheel and Cycle of Violence.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in SARC’s ETO database.

  • Collaborate with the Clinical Director through regular case reviews.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule:

This position includes regular business hours and rotating on-call shifts. Crisis Specialists are considered essential personnel and may be required to work remotely or onsite during weather or emergency events.

Salary:

This is a non-exempt position that pays at $27.00 per hour. This position is eligible to receive a shift differential of $2.00 per hour for any hours worked on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday from 8am to 8pm, and $4.00 per hour for any hours worked Monday-Sunday from 8pm to 8am.

Requirements

Requirements for Consideration:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field OR equivalent combination of education and related experience (1–2 years minimum).

  • Strong crisis response and communication skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and in emotionally intense situations.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

  • Completion of SARC’s 30-hour Crisis Response Training and 3-hour Companion Training (or willingness to complete upon hire).

  • Certification in the Danger Assessment tool (or willingness to obtain).

Benefits

What We Offer You:

  • 11 paid holidays, plus 2 floating holidays for full-time employees.

  • Up to 112 hours of vacation time in the first year (based on schedule).

  • Up to 96 hours of sick leave annually (based on schedule).

  • Choice of three health plans, with generous employer HSA contributions.

  • 100% employer-paid premiums for standard individual health coverage.
