Description
Under supervision of a higher level Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist or other supervisory official, performs professional GIS work relating to the geographic analysis of environmental parameters and or/other factors, image processing, interpretation, and application of remote sensing data; performs geographic data digitizing; operates all computer hardware and software associated with the Geographic Information System; does related duties.

Specific to the Position
This position will perform geospatial and statistical analyses of environmental and public health data across multiple DEP program areas, as well as other state, local and federal agencies, to enhance public knowledge and understanding of critical overarching environmental issues such as statewide PFAS contamination. The position will support other DEP program areas in their efforts to organize new and legacy data. The position will coordinate with data stewards to ensure that data is collected and stored in an accessible format to support integration into new and existing data visualization tools and resources. The position will use python and SQL to streamline data processing and support development and maintenance of data visualization tools and resources.

Preferred Skill Set
Experience with Python/Arcpy scripting; Python, ArcGIS Pro, ESRI extensions, SQL, Arcade, ArcGIS Online, and cartography/design. Enterprise geodatabase experience. Knowledge of computerized data entry and formatting and data base management and use.


Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

Six (6) years of professional experience with geographic information systems, including computer graphics and computer hardware digitizing procedures.

OR

Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.

OR

Possession of a master's degree in Geography or Environmental Science including or supplemented by the additional credits indicated below; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.

OR

Possession of a specific bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Science or related field with twelve (12) semester hours in computer mapping/GIS which shall have included spatial programming and digital image processing; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.

NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.

License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
