Description
Under the direction of a Research Scientist 1 or other supervisory official in a state department, institution, or agency, conducts or participates in research projects or developed programs in a specified professional field; does other related work.

Specific to the Position
The Research Scientist 3, working as a Technical Coordinator, conducts general technical evaluations of component reviews from licensed site remediation professionals as well as direct oversight, publicly funded and Superfund cases to ensure compliance with site remediation rules and regulations.


Conducts research projects or participates in functional programs in a specified professional field; assumes appropriate administrative and scientific duties as delegated; heads complex projects and makes recommendations to the supervisor; does related work.

Participates in complex technical consultations with members of the regulated community.  Assists in litigation support of high-profile cases. Maintains a current and thorough knowledge of technical issues related to the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites by taking advantage of all available training. Participates in rule making and program development tasks critical to the program such as the creation of technical guidance documents.



Position 1: Must have an established background in emerging contaminants research with emphasis on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. A demonstrated ability to conduct research, publish in peer reviewed journals, and present at scientific conferences is required.

Position 2: Conducts specialized reviews of topic areas including ecological risk assessments, remediation standards compliance, historic fill, alternative fill, historic pesticides, extractable petroleum hydrocarbons, vapor intrusion, compliance averaging and technical impracticability for contaminated sites and provides comments to licensed site remediation professionals and other groups in the program.

Preferred Skill Set
Position 1:  Preference will be given to individuals with an established background in emerging contaminants research with emphasis on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. This position is critical to the development of technical guidance and regulations for these emerging contaminants, as well as the review of required remedial phase document submittals. This position will also involve technical consultations with licensed site remediation professionals on complex cases and will require strong communication skills.


Position 2: Preference will be given to individuals with general scientific background knowledge and ability to apply regulations and guidance to technical document reviews associated with Contaminated Site Remediation & Redevelopment.


Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position.

EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience in a field appropriate to the position.

NOTE: A Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the position may be substituted for two (2) years of experience indicated above.

NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.

License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
