Cross-Functional Team Member- Choice Schools manages, plans, coordinates, and supports the development and implementation of innovative, grant funded and in district magnet and choice programs in accordance with district and state policies and guidelines thus ensuring that students have access to and information about how to access high-quality educational options.
1. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of program offerings at magnet and non-magnet specialty schools, ensuring alignment with district goals and educational standards.
2. Ensure Magnet Coordinators and school programs comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including adherence to coding standards, budgetary guidelines, and reporting requirements.
3. Oversee budget planning and expenditures for assigned programs, ensuring responsible and strategic use of funds while maintaining fiscal compliance.
4. Collect, analyze, and interpret performance and operational data to inform continuous improvement efforts; prepare regular reports for senior leadership and stakeholders.
5. Serve as a liaison between schools, Magnet Coordinators, and district departments, providing guidance and technical assistance to school leaders and staff to support high-quality programming.
6. Identify professional development needs and coordinate training for Magnet Coordinators and school personnel on topics such as compliance, instructional best practices, and data-informed decision-making.
7. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree

No supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff.
Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas. May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters.
Decisions have considerable impact on multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses. Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.
Negotiate and influence - interpret department strategies and services, resolve conflicts, influences outcomes on matters of significance for the division, conduct final negotiations and coordinates approvals/decision making below the executive level. Interactions are typically with customers and Top Management.
Regularly assesses and diffuses complex, and escalated customer issues. Takes personal responsibility and accountability for solving systemic customer service problems. Regularly explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer within HISD's policies and guidelines.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
