Job Description - Culinary Aide


 The Culinary Aide supports the dietary team in the preparation and service of high-quality meals for residents, staff, and special events. This role is essential in ensuring food is prepared safely, served at proper temperatures, and presented in an appealing manner, all while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and portion food items, including beverages, salads, desserts, and other assigned menu items, in accordance with planned menus and dietary requirements. 
  • Follow standardized recipes and established food safety, sanitation, and handling procedures. 
  • Ensure meals are presented in an appetizing and attractive manner. 
  • Deliver meals and snacks to designated areas in a timely and accurate manner, consistent with resident diet orders and preferences. 
  • Maintain proper food temperatures during preparation and service; accurately record temperature logs as required. 
  • Label, date, and store food items according to established policies and procedures. 
  • Monitor and record refrigerator and freezer temperatures; report discrepancies promptly. 
  • Wash dishes and kitchen equipment following proper sanitation procedures; maintain required logs for dishwashing and sanitizing processes. 
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment at all times. 
  • Assist with inventory management, including receiving, storing, and reporting supply levels. 
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any maintenance concerns promptly. 
  • Work collaboratively with team members and interact respectfully with residents, families, and staff. 

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of safe food preparation and handling techniques. 
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions effectively. 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with residents, families, and team members. 
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to maintaining a positive work environment. 

Additional Information

  • Adherence to all safety, sanitation, and infection control standards is required. 
  • Employees must complete and pass all required background checks prior to working with residents, in accordance with state regulations.

Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 

Licenses/Certification

  • Food Handlers Permit, if required per state regulations.
  • NOTE: Federal Child Labor Laws do not permit employees younger than 18 years of age to work with or repair, adjust, or clean power-driven machines such as meat slicers and commercial mixers. Therefore, individuals must be at least 18 years of age to be employed in this position.

Experience

  • Six months experience in a long-term care environment preferred.
  • Experience in food service is desired.
