CULINARY SPECIALIST DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL (DSP) in COMMUNITY SERVICES DAY PROGRAM

Monday-Friday 8am-4pm = 40 hours

Starting at: $18.75/hour

Our locations are shared spaces full of rich resources like art studios, fully-equipped kitchens where delicious meals are prepared jointly, bountiful gardens, technology centers, and exercise rooms.

We are hiring a full time Culinary Specialist DSP for our Community Services Day Program in Lewiston. JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the Creative Works’ Culinary Curriculum which provides individuals with the culinary experience

that promotes personal growth through the development of self-esteem, self-confidence, and independence. The

Culinary Specialist is responsible for preparing and directing the preparation of food to be served along with

complying with all applicable sanitation, health and personal hygiene standards. The Culinary Specialist must

follow established food production procedures and ensure all participants are educated in proper food procedures as

well.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepares and directs the preparation of food using established procedures.

Cultivates and develops a curriculum for participants to work in the kitchen to collaborate on culinary projects.

Keeps the work area neat and clean at all times and maintains the equipment used in food preparation.

Ensures food stored properly and safely, marking the date and item.

Assists with ensuring that culinary projects are completed correctly following the standard recipes.

Assists Cultivation Works to grow produce for use in the culinary program. This may include watering of plants, picking crops, planting, and any other task as requested.

Transport individuals, as needed, using personal vehicle (i.e., to appointments, work, etc.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop curriculum and provide multi-level skill training based upon the Culinary Program assessment.

Design and develop level appropriate cooking plans based upon the Culinary Curriculum.

Maintain accurate records including daily logs, individual files, and accident and incident reports.

Maintain open and focused communication with team members regarding goals and progress of program participants.

Comply with all Creative Works policies.

Be sure any facility where individuals use Creative Works services are kept clean and safe.

Ability to remain patient and empathetic.

Ability to remain flexible and quickly adapt to changing circumstances.

Must be able to problem solve and offer solutions.

Teamwork oriented, but also able to work independently.

Ability to adapt communication methods according to the individual’s need.

PHYSICAL TOLERANCES

This position is very active and requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching.

Must frequently assist in lifting non-living loads up to 50 lbs.

Must frequently assists participants’ with transfers.

While performing this job the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and see to the extent necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Valid US Driver’s License.

Satisfactory driving record per agency’s insurance company standards.

Ability to speak, read and write in English.

Prior experience in a food related service position preferred.

Experience supporting people with disabilities a plus.

Must be able to read, write, and speak English to the extent necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.

Must be able to perform basic math skills to the extent necessary to perform the job.

Must have, or be willing to obtain the following certifications: DSP within four months of hire.
