POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Department of Cultural Resources Director, the Cultural Resources Technician assists in conducting cultural (archaeological) surveys and monitoring as well as the range of other activities performed by the Department. These duties may include the Cultural Arts and Language (CAL) classes, Language Immersion camps, community events, oral history interviews, Colorado River Cultural Monitoring river trips, and other related duties as assigned. In general, these duties fall within the fields of Archaeology, Cultural Anthropology, Ethnobotany, and Hualapai language revitalization. Training may be provided for certain duties, but the candidate must demonstrate some required skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assist with archaeological fieldwork, such as surveys and monitoring, sometimes in rugged and remote backcountry areas.
· Assist with oral history interviews with elders & other knowledgeable individuals.
· Assist with language and culture programs involving youth.
· Efficiently communicate orally & in writing in English (fluency with Hualapai language a plus).
· Keep accurate daily field records and reports, when required, and submit reports to the Director.
· Attend and actively participate in meetings regarding relevant projects.
· Occasionally work in adverse weather conditions.
· Orient by using topographic maps, GPS devices, or compass in field situations.
· Use other fieldwork tools, such as (but not limited to) measuring devices, digital cameras, camcorders and audio/visual equipment.
· Work efficiently both on a team and independently.
· Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Have general knowledge of the Hualapai Reservation, including the backcountry.
· Have some knowledge of Hualapai cultural resources such as history, archaeology, ethnobotany, and places of cultural significance.
· Knowledge or experience in the field of archaeological or cultural resources is preferred.
· Some Hualapai language fluency is preferred.
· Must be able to work at times with minimal supervision.
· Knowledge of clerical procedures and systems, such as word processing, and managing files and records. Must be computer literate or willing to learn and become proficient in Word, Excel, and other computer programs.
· Must be dependable, responsible and willing to learn. Job requires being careful about detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks in a timely manner.
· Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays.
· Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
· Must be 18 years or older.
· Must have a valid driver license and be eligible for the tribe’s insurance.
· Must have a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.
· Submit to and pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and random test thereafter.
