Job Description - Curriculum Designer 1, RLA K-5 (Multiple Positions)

Location: Hattie Mae White \n\nDepartment: Curriculum Design RLA/SS/DL \n\nArea:District Wide \n\nContract Months:12 \n\nSalary Range: $90,000.00 \u2013 $110,000.00 \n\nAcademic Year: 26-27 \n\n## JOB SUMMARY\n\nDesigns and develops Houston ISD curriculum for Kindergarten through 5th grade Reading Language Arts, including Science of Reading-aligned instruction. Emphasizes creation of high-quality, teacher-facing instructional materials, including slide decks, Demonstrations of Learning (DOLs), literacy activities, and differentiated assignments aligned to daily learning objectives to support effective classroom implementation.\n\n## MAJOR DUTIES \u0026 RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nList most important duties first \n1\\. Designs and develops high-quality, TEKS-aligned K-5 RLA curriculum within the district\u2019s instructional framework, including daily lesson materials, assessments (e.g., daily, formative, and summative), and scaffolded supports. \n2\\. Creates differentiated literacy materials to support diverse learners, including scaffolds for reading comprehension and written expression \n3\\. Ensures alignment to TEKS and best practices in secondary literacy instruction \n\n## MAJOR DUTIES \u0026 RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED\n\n4\\. Collaborates in PLCs/brain trust sessions and iterates deliverables to refine curriculum, ensure clarity, and improve instructional effectiveness \n5\\. Ensures curriculum is rigorous, coherent, and actionable for teachers, and continuously improves materials based on student data, teacher feedback, and implementation outcomes. \n6\\. Participate in professional learning to internalize standards and strengthen literacy curriculum design practices materials based on student data, teacher feedback, and implementation outcomes.\n\n## EDUCATION\n\nBachelor\u0027s Degree\n\n## WORK EXPERIENCE\n\nAt least 3 years teaching or curriculum experience in elementary literacy \n\n## SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION\n\nOracle \nSAP \nMicrosoft Office \nOther: Science of Reading, structured literacy, curriculum design \nEquipment \nOffice equipment (e.g., computer, copier)\n\n## LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nLevel 1-No supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff.\n\n## WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT\n\n## BUDGET AUTHORITY\n\nNo budget development activity is required. \n\n## PROBLEM SOLVING\n\nDecisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.\n\n## IMPACT OF DECISIONS\n\nDecisions have considerable impact to multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses. Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.\n\n## COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS\n\nCollaborate and solve problems - work with others to resolve problems, clarify, or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.\n\n## CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS\n\nAnticipates customer needs, identifies, and champions opportunities for the development and implementation of new services and methods to meet or exceed customer needs. Establishes customer service standards and feedback mechanisms across departments.\n\n## WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS\n\nWork is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.\n\nHouston Independent School District is an equal opportunity employer. \n
