Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Senior Custodian, the Custodian performs janitorial functions related to building cleanliness, safety and order.

• Performs general cleaning operations in and near any designated office, common, restroom, kitchen and recreation areas
• Clean floor areas by sweeping, dusting, damp mopping and buffing
• Perform other janitorial duties such as dusting windowsills, blinds and moldings, cleaning stairs, glass doors and panels, vacuuming and removing spots from carpets, wet mopping and buffing halls and lobbies, cleaning and disinfecting drinking fountains, cleaning elevators, watering plants and washing soiled areas of partitions, doors and walls
• As conditions require, wax and polish floor areas, shampoo carpeting as needed
• Maintain restrooms in a clean and orderly manner by mopping floors, washing sinks, counter-tops and other surfaces, washing showers, toilets, partitions and soiled areas of walls, mirrors; and cleaning and disinfecting fixtures
• Clean and fill soap, paper and other dispensing equipment
• Prepare list of needed janitorial supplies and notify supervisor of needs
• Complete daily task list
• Empty trash containers and replace liners on a daily basis
• Dust desks and office furniture and equipment such as fire extinguishers and telephones
• Use of commercial vacuum cleaners, electric or battery powered sweeping, scrubbing, polishing and buffing machines
• General use of janitorial hand tools and equipment such as brooms, mops, snow shovels, street brooms, pails, wringers, sponges, dusters and mopping assembly
• Notify Maintenance of nonfunctioning light bulbs in light fixtures, exit signs, and emergency lighting in all agency facilities
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to operate heavy equipment (floor buffer, vacuums, carpet cleaner)
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; move furniture
• Ability to handle basic facility emergencies
• Ability to drive agency vehicles
• Ability to walk up and down stairs in multiple-story buildings

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must have a clean, valid NYS Driver License with access to reliable transportation to travel between sites

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least three years of janitorial/maintenance experience preferred

Schedule:

• Monday through Friday
