Custodian

The custodian is responsible for maintaining the internal and external cleanliness of the building and property, and reporting any maintenance issues that impact safety or positive perception of the Library.

Essential Duties:

• Maintain a regular schedule of cleaning all public and staff areas, to include enhanced cleaning protocols during pandemic situations.


• Maintain orderly janitorial closets and the garage.


• Assist with meeting room furnishings.


• Daily removal of trash and restocking of public use supplies.


• Other duties as assigned.

Expected Hours of Work:

Must work 37.5 hours a week. On-site attendance. Evenings and weekends are required.

Sundays                                  10:45-7:15

Monday-Thursday              11:45-8:15

Required Education and Experience:

• High school Diploma or GED


• Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving history


• Reliable transportation.


• Prior custodial experience preferred

• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with staff, vendors, technicians, and the public.


• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.


• Ability to maintain high standards of customer service and commitment to public service.


• Strong organizational skills.


• Ability to work independently and follow a maintenance schedule.


• Working knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment such as an electric floor buffer.

Physical Demands:

• Moderate work (lifting, pushing, or pulling 50 lbs. maximum)


• Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, type, pick, pinch, hear, and perform repetitive motions.


• Movement through facility locations and assisting patrons.


• Ability to move equipment by hand and by cart.

Work Enviroment:
