DEFINITION

To perform a full range of custodial duties related to the care, maintenance and cleaning of assigned city

facilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff.

Exercises no supervision.

ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS-Essential and other important

responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

1.   Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, strip and polish floors including linoleum and hardwood floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
2.   Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures and equipment; wash windows, mirrors and walls including window blinds and shutters; clean and
   polish metal fixtures.
3.   Clean and sanitize jail facilities; launder Police Department bedding.
4.   Clean and disinfect drinking fountains and restrooms; replenish and maintain restroom supplies including soap dispensers, tissue and towels.
5.   Move and arrange furniture and equipment as necessary.
6.   Open and secure assigned buildings and facilities.
7.   Order, organize and maintain storage rooms and equipment.
8.   Clean outside areas near building; pick up paper and other debris; shovel snow

Marginal Functions:

1.   Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Methods, materials, and equipment used in building and grounds cleaning and maintenance.

Knowledge of basic building trades.

Hazards and applicable safety precautions.

Operational characteristics of equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned.

Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.

Ability to:

Perform various cleaning and sanitizing maintenance activities.

Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment.

Use a variety of custodial equipment, supplies and materials.

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Ability to:

Work independently in the absence of supervision.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Follow all safety rules and regulations of the assigned department.

Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations.

Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which

may include the following:

       - walking, standing or sitting for extending periods of time

       - lifting and/or carrying moderate objects

       - travelling to various work locations

       - climbing stairs or ladders

       - bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling or standing/or extended periods of time.

Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:

       - making observations

       - communicating with others

       - answering questions

       - speaking in a clear and audible voice.

Maintain mental capacity which permits:

      - making sound decisions and using good judgment

      - communicating clearly

      - responding to questions.

Effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve:

      - working alone

      - working with hazardous chemicals and materials

      - exposure to dirt and dust

      - potentially dangerous equipment and machinery.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Experience:

    No experience is required.

    Training:

    Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions:

Office/field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to cleaning chemicals and materials; dust and

dirt.

Physical Conditions:

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending,

stooping, kneeling, crawling, or standing for prolonged periods of time; general manual dexterity.
