POSITION: Custodian

PURPOSE OF JOB: A custodian performs routine manual work utilizing cleaning materials, equipment, methods and procedures in maintaining a clean, neat and orderly building.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

Custodians perform specific duties in the proper care and cleaning of the building:

• Day cleaning of cafeteria, restrooms, corridors, stairs, entrances, Mayerberg, and Theater.
• Day cleanup and sanitizing of bodily fluid accidents including vomits, urine, blood, etc.
• Mid-day cleaning of kindergarten and first grade classroom furniture and adjacent restrooms.
• Evening shift cleaning of the entire building i.e. entrances, hallways, stairs, classrooms, computer labs, music rooms, art labs, offices, conference rooms, library, small gym, large gym, theater, and cafeteria. This includes cleaning and sanitizing all student desks and chairs, cleaning whiteboards, window glass, door handles, and kick plates.
• Evening shift cleaning and sanitizing all restrooms, varsity locker rooms, and all P.E. locker rooms.
• Supports special evening and Saturday events for all academic programs including athletic events, Family Fun Nights, Science Fairs, Build-A-Book, kindergarten roundups, meet the teacher nights, open houses, and the Gala.
• Special cleaning of large gym including bleachers following basketball and volleyball games.
• Special cleaning of adjacent restrooms during and after basketball and volleyball games.
• Assist the floor maintenance specialist with stripping and refinishing vinyl tile floors as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A person working in this classification will need to be able to lift, carry, and set down objects of moderate weight (25-50 lbs.) on a daily basis and will also need to grasp broom and mop handles; work around dust and cleaning chemicals; and climb stairs, stoop, bend, and reach. Experience in commercial cleaning is beneficial with working knowledge of hand tools, vacuums, and burnishers.
