Custodian

Job Summary

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the facility. This position performs routine cleaning, sanitation, minor maintenance, and general upkeep of assigned areas while following established safety and cleanliness standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize offices, classrooms, restrooms, hallways, common areas, and other assigned spaces.


• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and polish floors and surfaces.


• Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.


• Clean and restock restrooms and other common-use areas.


• Replenish cleaning and restroom supplies as needed.


• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools safely.


• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, damage, or needed repairs to the appropriate supervisor.


• Perform minor maintenance and general upkeep tasks as assigned.


• Follow established procedures for the safe handling and storage of cleaning chemicals.


• Maintain an organized supply and equipment area.


• Assist with setting up and cleaning areas for meetings, events, or other activities.


• Follow all workplace health, safety, and security policies.


• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or facilities experience preferred but not required.


• Ability to work independently and follow written and verbal instructions.


• Ability to safely use cleaning products, equipment, and basic tools.


• Good attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean environment.


• Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively with others.


• Ability to perform physical tasks associated with cleaning and facility maintenance.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and lift for extended periods.


• Ability to lift and carry cleaning supplies and equipment.


• Ability to perform repetitive cleaning and maintenance tasks.


• Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions as required.

Work Schedule

Schedule and working hours may vary based on facility needs and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, or occasional overtime.
