Summary:

The Custodian is dedicated to fulfilling the Jewish Community Center’s (the J’s) mission of enriching lives, building community, promoting inclusivity, and creating meaningful Jewish experiences. The Custodian proactively collaborates across departments to provide excellent customer service to our staff, members, vendors, and rental clients through routine cleaning, room set up, laundry duties, and upkeep of the buildings and grounds.

Responsibilities:

• Mop, sweep and scrub floors and other surfaces as needed.
• Clean and dust furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings.
• Clean and service restrooms and locker rooms.
• Collect waste paper and recyclables.
• Collect debris removed from the buildings and place in containers for removal by truck.
• Launder, fold and restock towels as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout work area.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED preferred.
• Prior related experience preferred.
• General knowledge of basic cleaning chemicals and their safety is a plus.
• Must be attentive to details with outstanding internal and external customer service skills.
• Flexible schedule to allow for weekend and evening work is required.
• Commitment to the inclusive mission of the J.

Physical Demands:

• Must pass pre-employment physical.
• Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking. Must be able to spend majority of shift walking, twisting, bending, pushing, stooping, and pulling.
• Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility.
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing with the ability to read and understand written material and instructions in the primary language used in the workplace.
• Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment including the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
• Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
• Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects not usually to exceed 80 pounds. May occasionally include objects that will exceed 80 pounds.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular and continuing basis.
• Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
• Most tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by building environmental systems; however, laundry staff must be able to work in extreme temperatures found in laundry rooms (+80F), possibly for one hour or more.
• Requires the ability to work inside and outside in all types of weather.

About Us The St. Louis Jewish Community Center (the J) has been providing excellent health and cultural experiences for the entire community for over 140 years. We are hiring for Operations Specialist to join our team to work in our facilities both in Creve Coeur and Chesterfield. This is a full-time, hourly position.
