Hiring Range: $14.81-$15.70/hr

The Role

Thompson Rivers Parks and Recreation District is seeking a fun and energetic individual, who can help us provide a healthy, happy community through people, parks, programs, partnerships! Under the direct supervision of the Custodian Coordinator, this individual will assist with janitorial maintenance at our facilities.  

Duties & Responsibilities

• Works closely with the Custodian Coordinator as well as Parks and Facilities staff with cleaning and maintaining all assigned facilities to the highest degree. This includes but is not limited to sweeping and mopping hard surface flows, vacuuming carpets, cleaning restrooms, washing walls, windows, countertops, appliances, and fixtures in addition to trash removal.


• Notify the Custodian Coordinator of any required facility or equipment repairs.


• Sets up and/or cleans up programming space as required by recreational staff. This includes but is not limited to lifting and arranging chairs, tables, sports court set up and moving supplies.


• Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills in all communications.


• Utilize safety measures, wear proper safety gear, and always assist in the overall safety inside the building and on the grounds.


• Supports quality loss control/safety program for the District.


• Assist with small projects and repairs as needed.


• Assist the Parks Department with snow and ice control, when necessary.


• Assist the Recreation Department with special events set up.


• Performs other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

• Must be 15 years of age or older


• Some high school education required


• Willing to work the required early morning or late evening schedule with some weekends. 


• Knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals, materials, and equipment.


• Basic clerical and computer skills.


• Ability to use various types of commercial cleaning equipment.


• Ability to work effectively in a climate requiring timely administrative responsiveness and flexibility.


• Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment, respond calmly and professionally to stressful and demanding situations.


• Ability to work independently and reliably complete assigned tasks.


• Ability to establish and maintain productive relations and positive attitude with and toward others.


• Ability to tactfully resolve guest/associate concerns.

Physical Requirements

Perform tasks that require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and sitting. Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations. Perform lifting tasks up to 40 pounds.

Environmental Considerations

The Janitorial Coordinator is exposed to outside weather conditions when performing outside janitorial duties, snow removal duties or driving to another facility. Most activities are performed indoors in a controlled lighting and controlled temperature work area.
