Custodian/Maintenance

Description

M.S. Rau is looking for a Custodian/Maintenance Tech who will perform custodial and minor maintenance at the gallery in accordance with Company standards for quality, cleanliness, client satisfaction, and safety and security. You have a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. The expertise you will bring includes:

Custodial Duties: 

1. Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, wax and polish floors, primarily back-of-house (Operations shop, Housekeeping storage, access stairs, etc.).
2. Operate carpet cleaner and other equipment using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
3. Clean outside public access areas, sweep and remove debris from sidewalks and gutters, wash windows or perform other incidental seasonal tasks.
4. Clean and Maintain courtyards including watering plants and removing weeds.
5. Receive and stock deliveries of housekeeping items and other supplies.
6. Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment.
7. Empty and remove trash daily.
8. Clean and maintain moving equipment (dollies, carts, etc.).
9. May be asked to run errands as required by management.

Maintenance Duties:

1. Assist the Maintenance Technician in maintaining and repairing facilities.
2. Daily light maintenance including tasks such as changing lightbulbs, cleaning and servicing cleaning equipment, etc.
3. Prepare for inclement weather by installing hurricane boards and sandbags.
4. Assist with sanding and painting.
5. Assemble and disassemble furniture and shelving.
6. Cleaning and maintaining HVAC vents and related items.

Requirements

Other skills you will bring to M.S. Rau

• High school graduate, or equivalent
• 1 year custodial and light maintenance experience

Knowledge/Skills

• Be accountable for time and tasks
• Capable of promoting teamwork within the department and in coordination with other departments
• Must be able to read, speak and understand English for safety reasons
• Must be organized, detailed oriented, thorough, self-motivated, disciplined, flexible, and patient
• Self-management, initiative and individual judgment are expected

What We Offer:

Compensation and Hours 

This position starts at $18/hour. Hours of operation for the Facilities department are Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a 30-mimute lunch break - work hours will be scheduled during this time. Rotating Saturdays required.  Some evening and holiday work required.  

Work Environment

This is a physically demanding position with employees mainly working in a controlled gallery environment but at times will work outside in weather conditions (hot, cold, etc.). Work environment involves slight physical risk that requires following basic safety precautions. The position requires the use of equipment with relatively simple operating procedures.

• Ability to raise/lower or push/pull objects from one level or another up to 50lbs 
• Ability to frequently walk
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop and climb
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to read and write the English language
• Working conditions require exposure to dust, dirt, etc.
• Occasional exposure to hazards
• Ability to walk on uneven or rough natural terrain
• Ability to work in various weather conditions
