Custodians (After Closing)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Oneida Family YMCA is hiring two part-time custodians who can maintain the common areas, including locker rooms, restrooms, steam room, and therapy center of the facility after closing each day.  These custodians will have alternating schedules (Sunday-Wednesday) (Thursday - Saturday).  

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned areas and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, deep cleaning of locker rooms, showers, bathrooms, steam room, sauna, lobby areas and main hallways, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing,  vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with landscape care and snow removal, and general cleaning.

2. Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.

3. Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.

4. Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.

5. Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.

6. May set up furniture for events.

7. Uphold safety and Child Protection standards per Y policies.

8. Attend staff meetings and other meetings and trainings as required

9. Maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of Y standards.

10. Is committed to maintaining a workplace free from all forms of harassment

11. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.

12. Attends required abuse risk management training. 

13. Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors. 

14. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.

15. Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities. 

16. Ensures unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitors high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Minimum six months experience in facility cleaning

· Ability to use equipment and chemicals in prescribed manner

· Ability to read labels, MSDS information sheets, and instructions

· Ability to stay alert to potential safety and security problems

· Ability to carry out instructions independently

· Ability to get along with people of diverse backgrounds.

· Must meet all Association-Wide training requirements in addition to those set forth by their Supervisor.

· Must be able to pass a Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offender Registry Background Screening.
