Primary Purpose:
Support growth and innovation by leading primary market research to inform product, portfolio, and go-to-market decisions. Design and conduct primary qualitative and quantitative research—including surveys, interviews, focus groups, market assessments, and needs analyses—and translate findings into actionable insights for business leaders and product owners.
This role focuses on primary market research and customer insights to drive strategic decisions. It is not a data engineering or IT analyst role. The ideal candidate brings experience in primary market research skills—survey design, qualitative research, market assessment, translating findings into product and business recommendations, and effectively communicating findings to stakeholders.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

- Champion a culture of inquiry through the process of engaging with customers and market signals to improve understanding of audiences, evolving needs, and emerging opportunities.
- Manage recurring needs assessments with business leaders to identify annual primary research priorities and establish annual research roadmap that informs budgeting, innovation, and organizational goal setting.
- Design and conduct primary research studies to fulfill the research roadmap, leveraging appropriate tools such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.
- Synthesize and disseminate insights and findings—highlighting key takeaways, opportunities, risks, and recommendations—to translate learnings into actionable insights that drive decision-making related to product offerings, innovations, and go-to-market strategies.
- Support the ongoing evaluation of product lines, customer needs, and market opportunity in partnership with product owners, finance, and other key stakeholders.
- Contribute research-based insights to CHEST Analytics initiatives, focusing on clinical and practice trends, customer needs, and market opportunities.
- Provide guidance to staff toward shaping research design, helping select appropriate methods and supporting customer interviews, discussion guides, facilitated sessions, and other needs.
- Monitor the pulmonary and critical care landscape for emerging trends (eg, healthcare workforce issues, barriers to practice) and priorities, create briefings on findings and make recommendations for action where needed.

Required Qualifications and Competencies:
- 5+ years of experience in primary market research, product research, customer insights, or related insights-driven research roles, utilizing qualitative and quantitative analysis best practices, preferably in healthcare or a mission-driven organization.
- Demonstrated experience designing and executing primary research, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, discussion guides, needs assessments, or similar methodologies.
- Ability to synthesize and translate research findings into actionable insights, including business recommendations, audience insights, market opportunity assessments, and product strategy implications.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly convey insights, implications, and recommendations to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to build trust, work cross-functionally, and navigate stakeholders to move work forward effectively.
- Strong prioritization and execution skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at different stages, adapt to changing needs, and deliver results.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and with teams to drive results.
- Periodic travel may be required to represent CHEST at professional society and business meetings.
- Ability to adhere to CHEST's hybrid work schedule, which includes 2 days per week work-from-home, and 3 days per week onsite at CHEST headquarters in Glenview. Tuesday and Wednesday are CHEST's anchor days, and a 3rd onsite will be decided between employee and supervisor.

Additional Information
The annual base salary range for this position is USD $118,000 to USD $125,000. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items. CHEST considers factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
